Meet Christy Sutton of Dallas Chiropractic & Kinesiology in Mid East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Sutton.

Christy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was younger I was critically ill will Crohn’s disease. At the age of 20 I had emaciated to 70 lbs. due to Crohn’s disease. It was a chiropractor that eventually diagnosed me with having Pallegra (vitamin B-3 deficiency) and some food allergies. This was the beginning of my healing journey, which eventually led me to going to chiropractic school and practicing here in Dallas. It has been a long and winding road, but I believe that I have found my purpose and have helped a lot of people along the way.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been smooth. I originally planned to work in Austin, my hometown, for the rest of my life after chiropractic school. But I met my husband and ended up moving to Dallas, where I had to start my practice all over from zero. I was 4 months pregnant when I left my practice in Austin to be with my husband in Dallas. Owning a business it challenging, but starting a new business while 4 months pregnant is particularly challenging.

When you go to school the reality and hardships of being a mother while owning and starting a small business is not discussed. I have seen many of my colleagues go out of business after having children, and not due to their desire to stop working. If you own a business, then you do not get paid maternity leave. Rather, your get to continue to pay you’re overhead and maybe fit a couple weeks to a month off before feeling the pressure to go back to work.

In addition to being a working mother, starting a business is a challenge. I felt like there have been a lot of people that have taken advantage of me to their benefit.

In the end, I believe that success and failure is ultimately up to the amount of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears you put into your trade. While others are watching TV before bed, I am reading, studying, and going over patients files. I give 100 percent to my patients, and give them a personalized and high quality experience. I pay attention to details that most other doctors do not, and look at their health in a holistic and functional manner. My patients tend to get good results because I am obsessive compulsive about their health, and ask the questions that others usually do not. However, I am horrible about marketing and therefore, it has taken time for my practice to grow. My practice is almost 100 percent referral based.

Please tell us about Dallas Chiropractic & Kinesiology.
I am a chiropractor and author.

I specialize in helping people to attain and maintain their health as naturally and holistically as possible. I am also a science nerd, which is why I wrote a book on using genetic testing, such as “23andMe”, to help guide people towards making smarter and more personalized healthcare plans.

My book is titled “Genetic Testing: Defining Your Path to a Personalized Health Plan”. Anyone that has done “23andMe” can go to the website http://geneticdetoxification.com to order a personalized genetic report, which will follow along with the book, and help them learn what they can consider doing to maintain and attain health.

So often people feel like they are forced to have a surgery or take a drug to be healthy. In some cases this might be true, but in many cases it is just a matter of them not having the care they needed to avoid needing surgery or medication.

I like to find and help correct the underlying problem rather than mask the symptoms.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I loved going to Camp longhorn and Colorado in the summers. I loved water and snow skiing. I love the outdoors and cherish adventures with family and friends.
