Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Elsey.
Chuck, please share your story with us.
After a twenty-year career in the oil and gas business, including time as Regional VP of exploration and development, Senior VP of Business Development and President and COO, I began consulting nationally and internationally advising C level executives and their boards regarding transactions and merger and acquisition integration. This included Fortune 500 companies like Flowserve in Dallas. In 2005, following my son, Chad Elsey’s graduation from law school, we founded Elsey & Elsey with the goal of becoming immersed in the community and building our business on relationships.
We allocated zero dollars to a marketing budget and instead made a conscious decision to establish our brand through our work in the local non-profit world. We have provided financial support, pro bono legal services, served on the executive committees and boards and provided legal counsel to more than a dozen non-profit entities. Elsey & Elsey has been selected the Best Law Firm in Denton County on seven occasions and its attorneys have been honored as Best of Denton County multiple times in business law and family law.
Chuck has been married to his wife, Lori, for 45 years. She being his inspiration and the one that makes it all work. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
Has it been a smooth road?
As with any business, the biggest struggle is establishing your brand. We were fortunate to have developed many key relationships in the time we lived in Flower Mound. I was fortunate to have had three very successful high school basketball players, two of whom played Division.
1. We had also been very active in our church, where I served as a deacon. So when we started the firm we had some modicum of name recognition, which was very helpful. Our first year was a building year, but we managed to recoup my initial investment and make a small profit. Our revenues doubled in year two and our business has been steady ever since.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Elsey & Elsey – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Elsey & Elsey, located in Flower Mound, Texas is a general practice law firm, which offers services in business and corporate law, real estate law, family law, wills, trusts and estates as well as civil and commercial litigation. Chuck Elsey has been selected the Best Business Lawyer and the Best Oil and Gas Lawyer in Denton County in multiple years. He was also Flower Mound’s 2013 Citizen of the Year. Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I have the best of two worlds. Living in North Dallas affords my wife and I all the conveniences and benefits of a big city like Dallas and it’s very near our two daughters, Ashley Elsey and Jesse Ihde and her husband Josh and four of our grandchildren.
Working in Flower Mound allows me to have a real sense of community with a group of civic and business leaders that’s not so easily achieved in a big city. I also get to work with my son and be close to him and his wife Julie, and three of my grandchildren. The downside to this arrangement is obviously the traffic, from time to time.
