Meet Chuck Greeson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chuck Greeson.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been fascinated by photography, movies, television, commercials, animation, graphic design, books and architecture since the beginning. I wanted to learn how the things I saw on tv and on the big screen were made. As a kid, my sense of wonderment has gotten me where I am today with the help of my parents and hard work. I had a pretty interesting life so far.

I dropped out of college when I was 24 and worked some odd jobs for a few years and then in 2002, I had a baseball-sized cyst growing in the back of my skull that was causing all sorts of problems. After having brain surgery, I decided that I needed to go back to school and get the degree I wanted to have so I could work in the film/video industry. After getting my undergraduate degree in film/video production from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2003, I started working in the industry and started my career as a videographer and photographer. In 2015, I decided that I wanted to get my masters of fine arts in media design from Full Sail University where I graduated with honors. Having a terminal degree in the arts was a gateway to where I am now. A crossroads of taking my career to the next level either as a creative director and university professor. I have continued to improve my skills and adding new ones everyday. I think it is important to keep pushing yourself to be better than you were the day before.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some of the struggles I have faced was living with alcoholic parents one, who is clinically bipolar the other was verbally abusive. Don’t get me wrong my parents have been one of the reasons I am still alive today.

Being a child of self-medicating alcoholics also has its struggles. The addiction side of that is real and I abused drugs for a long time myself but after you have brain surgery and basically a second chance, you kind of put things in perspective and you have two choices to make. One, keep going down the same path and end up in jail or dead. Or you can pick yourself up and make a change for the better. I chose the latter.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Currently, I am the university videographer & photographer at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. I have been working there for the last eight years. Where I have worked on the university’s “Smaller. Smaller.” ad campaign as well as all university video and photography.

I am proud of building the Texas Wesleyan brand since day one. In the past eight years, we have won over 150 advertising awards.

Being a part of a small in house creative agency is what I like to call our team at Texas Wesleyan has been the most challenging and rewarding experience. I have been able to grow my skills and talent into the creative I am today. I have worked with some of the most talented people in the advertising and higher education field. I hope to continue to grow in this field enough to get to where I want to be.

What were you like growing up?
I have been pretty much the same person I have always been. Somewhat introverted and shy at first but I have never met a stranger. I enjoy making people laugh and will always try to help the people around me achieve their goals.
