Today we’d like to introduce you to CI’Year Webb.
CI’Year, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in the music industry as an A&R Director & Rep, the CEO for a label, also I hosted my own T.V. show. During those times we had artist, who had talent but no drive and no image, so it made it hard for us to promote and succeed as easy as we thought. So through bad contracts (offered to me), we spit up into two separate labels leaving me with half the guys in which I started “Star Struck Records LLC”.
During these times things got good at one time and jealousy set in and guys being broke cause us to fall apart leaving me with a record label and 20 new Paid for beats I just purchased… So I started rapping and my career took off faster than we expected, but don’t get me wrong I was highly doubted and laughed at first, but I kept pushing… I went by the name King B’Weezy for that period of time… and throughout some life changing situations and a few drug charges, I moved from Louisiana and moved to Texas to try a fresh start… During my move, I got my second baby mother pregnant and found out it was my first son… So in knowing so, I evolved from “King” to CI’Year which stands for King of Kings.. and I named my son Syire… which stands for king… So here we are today… And I started my second clothing line called YMF which stands for Your Mommas Favorite… In memory of my late grandmother and my homeboy lost his mother as a child so it came from those meanings…
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Nothing about my journey has been smooth, it all has been a major challenge having to overcome jealousy and being homeless… while trying to raise your kids and other peoples kids also… Not to mention catching two different felony cases made a lot hard for me… also my daughter having epilepsy.
Star Struck Records, Hustle Music, and YMF Apparel – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well I have a record label and promotion company called Star Struck Records LLC and Hustle Music is the brand of music I push… also I have a popular clothing line called YO Mommas Favorite #YMF… So we specialize in branding a certain sound of music and a personal style of clothing… I’m most proud because every single piece of anything I’ve done or own, I’ve gotten it on my own without a handout and I’ve done all the ground work myself. And that’s what set me apart from others because my grind has meaning… we are more than just a brand chasing a buck I’m chasing a legacy to leave my kids and future kids….
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is when u wake up in the morning and not a stress in the world about your kids well being, your healthy, you can leave knowing that your family has something to help them start or continue the legacy… Material things or momentary success factors I wanna live forever through my accomplishments…
