Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Williams.
Claire, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started in the film industry scriptwriting and directing short films and plays. After being in this industry for about 3 years I found a passion for different types of photography that eventually evolved into my own business. I started by experimenting with nature and landscape photography publishing a few pieces of work during this time. Here and there I began to work with clients on small projects, and a lot of freelance work. I began to see the love I had for working with people, showing people their inner and outer beauty as well as their personal stories through photos, and video. In 2015 I created my business Claire Williams Photography form the ground up. I starting with only portraits, and quickly entering the world of Wedding photography, and now also offering Wedding Videography. I love to tell people that my job is not an ordinary job, it’s my passion and I can’t begin to express how much of a blessing it is to work with people fulfilling my passion for art, and expressing natural beauty through photos. It took many trials and errors as well as many success to create the business that I own today, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I grew up in a very business oriented family learning the basics of how to run a business from a very early age. This is one of the factors of my desire to start a business so young. One of my greatest struggles starting out was acquiring the rights to a business of my own, as well as producing the very expensive equipment that is necessary to do the job right. Thankfully I had so many family members like my parents that were extremely supportive and generous during this time. Once I did create my business I found out how hard it truly was to create something big from nothing. It’s hard starting out knowing that no one really knows you have a photography business so therefore no one reaches out to book with your business. It took many lessons on proper marketing, many Facebook posts, and lots of word of mouth to create the type of volume I do have today. There were times where I thought about quitting, and giving up on this passion when business was slow, and the sales were not rolling in. Thankfully my strong desire to own a business successfully kept me going all these years. I took skills that I knew prior to this endeavor, and many new skills I have learned along the way to create the Claire Williams Photography business that is today.
Please tell us about Claire Williams Photography.
Claire Williams Photography focuses on natural beauty and brings out the beauty from within. I specialize in Wedding Photography, and Videography as well as general portraits (Newborns, Family, Self, etc.) I also specialize in natural light based photos also known as light and airy. I am most proud of how my business has grown over the years due to my wonderful clients, and families I work with. I love to learn about my clients, their love stories, how they met, or what they love to do, what makes them smile and express those things through their pictures. I would believe that sets me apart from other companies. The business aspect of photography is so important, as well as the skill and the art, but what I truly think makes pictures so memorable is the feeling, and emotion they portray. That is something I have believed since the beginning and continue to do so.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood was traveling. Though I’ve never been out of the country I have traveled all throughout the U.S. I’ve experienced different cultures in different states. I’ve experienced different traditions, social activities, foods, etc. I use to use a Nikon Coolpix to capture these memories; which I actually still have to this day. It was something about traveling and exploring that gives me that sense of adventure even if it’s in the simplest places there’s always an adventure and something to capture.
