Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Chacon.
Hi Claudia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in a small town in Mexico. That’s where I went to school. However, my family didn’t have money to pay for my school, so I had to work during the day and go to school at night. I knew I wanted to live a better life. My dream had always been to have my own business and live in a small house in peace. My life as a child was full of chaos, drama, sadness, and pain. I was looking for peace and success. I wanted to learn how to be happy.
I met my ex-husband in Mexico. We fell in love almost instantly, so we got married. Then he decided to come to this country, and I decided to follow. Since the day I was born, my life was constantly changing. There was never a warning that change was coming, and this time was no different. I suddenly found myself living in a different country with a different culture and, of course, a different language.
When my first daughter was born, I hated leaving her at a daycare. But when I found the opportunity to care for children at my own house and stay with my daughter, I studied at night so I could get a license. Then back in 2014, after my divorce, I found myself alone with a business, a mortgage, and two daughters to take care of. My life was always changing drastically, but this time it was scary. What was I going to do? How I was I going to do it? Depression and anxiety have always been part of my life but this time it was at its worst. I was crying all night and having panic attacks constantly. I didn’t have enough money and I lost a lot of my contracts. The business wasn’t doing well, but my daughters needed me, and I needed to get up every morning and keep going. Years have passed and looking back, perseverance and moving one day at a time has helped me get to where I am right now. This success and happiness is something I work at daily, and I have finally found what I always wanted: peace.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been easy. The first obstacle was the language and the fact that I went to school in Mexico. I had to relearn to manage everything again, computer, administration, and social life. My major obstacles were trying to keep myself focused on my goal. I sabotaged myself many times with negative thoughts, always trying to be perfect and trying not to make mistakes. It has been hard to learn that I am not perfect and I am allowed to make mistakes.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lala’s Home Daycare?
I have a license to care for infants and toddlers, but my program is based on infants under 24 months old. My passion is to work with newborns. I think every infant is a little sponge that’s born into this world to learn and explore. I feel like I am responsible for helping these new little humans discover new abilities and explore the things that our world offers. It always makes me feel amazed when I see their little faces as they learn or discovered new things. They’re doing everything for the first time, and I love to be there to lead them.
