Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Guzman.
Claudia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I gained interest when my husband kept asking me to look into backdrops for his clients. He has his own karaoke business and he would receive several requests or referrals. So about a year and a half ago, I bought several backdrops, but it wasn’t capturing my attention. It was missing something. So, I decided to go on Pinterest to get some ideas and that is when the balloons creativity caught my attention. I started reviewing the tutorial on YouTube learning techniques and different styles. I officially started my service about seven months ago. I have been surprised by all the responses that I have received. I have done several Quinceañera, baby showers, bridal and retirement parties. I am always learning a new way to expand my creativity.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It can be tough. There is so much competition out there and pricing can be challenging. When I first started, I volunteered my time and created balloons garland for friends and my husband clients for free.
Please tell us about your business.
My business is small and just starting. I couldn’t do without my daughters and referrals from my friends. I specialize in organic balloons garland and balloons bouquets. I am known mostly for organic balloons garland. What I am most proud of is all the responses I get back from my clients after an event is over. What sets me apart from others: I do this part-time and I am a newbie.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I define success when I see the smile and the great feedback that I get from my clients. Also, when customers return to use my service again. It keeps me thriving. My criteria is always looking for improvements and never settling for one style. I look at every detail such as the balloon quality and varieties of sizes. I purchase the best to produce quality work. All my balloons have to be round. I don’t like to see pear shape balloons in any of my organics balloon garlands. It’s one of my pet-peeves. When I first started, I was guilty of it.
