Meet Claudio Leiva of The Sound Box Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudio Leiva.

Claudio, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My first break happened before I was done with engineering school and go an internship on a prestigious post production studio in Santiago Chile. Little by little I started to perform more studio like tasks and yes, eventually I became an assistant engineer and then became assistant and the engineer.

The common ground of the music I listened was that most of those records were either recorded or mixed in Los Angeles CA, so I decided that I had to go there. Lots of adventures in the journey but I made it and got to work with some of the best artists, musicians, engineers and producers in the music industry. Destiny took me to another area that I love; sound design. I started to work in post-production in L.A. ending up as an engineer at Fox Sports International.

When I met my wife, we started looking for a different environment to raise a family, so we moved to San Antonio TX and started The Sound Box Studios. After 7 years business we decided to explore a bigger market and here we are, in the heart of Dallas trying to make every job a successful experience for our clients.

Has it been a smooth road?
I don’t think any business owner can say “It has been a smooth road”. We have to deal with money, employees, clients, taking the risk, etc. There is always something that keeps you awake at least once a week.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We have a post-production studio, were we do editing, sound design and music mostly for advertising campaigns. In our business quality is a must and its given so the most important factor is relationships and customer service. We have had to compete first in San Antonio and then in Dallas for a piece of the business against long-standing competitors in the market. And we have done alright but we don’t take it for granted. I guess that sets us apart. We still give our very best on every project and we try to win that repeated client all over again.

Where do you see the industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changing, trending?
Our destiny is tie to marketing and advertising budgets and that doesn’t go away but what is happening is that consumers of media is now so fragmented that per project budgets are coming way down. To survive, studios like our would need to be super efficient. Also open to collaborations, integrations and potential mergers and acquisitions.
