Meet Rhonda Ray of Closet Envy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Ray.

Rhonda, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in the custom closet industry at 18 years old. I graduated high school in the high desert of Southern California in 1985 and signed up at the community college in Santa Ana, California with all the basic classes. I needed to work to support myself while in school so I answered an ad in the newspaper for Jason’s Organizers in Huntington Beach. They hired me and taught me to design and sell their product. I was hooked after my first appointment in San Clemente with a sweet retired couple. At first glance of the space I already knew how I would lay it out and design it to help them get more organized and make their space more beautiful. I continued to work there until I moved to Texas in 1994. I then went to work for a local closet company which was located in Farmers Branch at the time. I stayed with them as their senior designer and top sales performer every year until I moved over to the industry leading closet company in Dallas in 2013. I then was consistently the number one sales/senior designer in Dallas for that company every year I was employed with them. I was also number 3 in the whole entire company nationwide in 2015. I received the honor of president’s club for selling over 5 million dollars in the 4 years I worked there. I then decided that it was time to move on to something that gave me more flexibility in the design process and what I could offer my client in design and customer service. It is my desire to have my own company and live my own dream. Closet Envy has allowed me to live that dream. They allow me the opportunity to do what I love everyday which is helping people create a happy place in their home and feel more peace by becoming more organized. Closet Envy is truly custom luxury at an affordable price for my clients. I love every minute of my journey here!

Has it been a smooth road?
Not always a smooth road, finding the right Cad program to design with has had its challenges. But in the end, we have overcome the obstacles by working together as a team to create what our client has had in their mind for their dream space!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Closet Envy story. Tell us more about the business.
We are a luxury custom closet company that specializes in transforming any storage space including closets, home offices, pantries, laundry, garages, media areas into something calm and beautiful at an affordable price. We bring the showroom to you.

People have busy lives and do not always have the time to go visit a showroom. We have samples of almost everything we offer and bring it to your home or place of business. This allows you to see these items in the space, making it easier to match colors and finishes. I am most proud of the product we deliver to our customers and the ease of process we provide. We have a website where our customers can see their timeline from the time they place their order to the finished and completed product. The customer has access to internal messaging and can view each stage of production of their product being built. If they want to order any additional items they can just log in and add an item like a tie rack or belt rack. It’s a wonderful experience for them. We create designs for their space in a 3D cad program, this allows the customer to see how the transformation of the space will look when completed.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
This industry will continue to grow, especially here in Dallas with all the growth and companies moving here. Trending right now are white closets, with mixed metals and beautiful glass inserts. Lighting is a huge trend in closets right now as well. People love to see their special handbag or red bottom shoes on display with lights and glass shelves.
