Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Brown.
Cody, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As far back as I remember, I have loved design and architecture. This could be genetics because I come from a family of home builders and creatives. Upon graduating high school I was destined for a business degree and had planned to stay in my small hometown of Shreveport, LA. But, from day one I felt bored and totally uninterested. After sticking with this plan for nearly 2 years, I decided it was time for me to spread my wings and fulfill my passion for design as a career. Getting to this point was not easy; I was so comfortable with my small town life, young, and naïve. Knowing I had to be brave, I moved to Dallas, TX to attend The Art Institute for my Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design. Immediately I loved my choice and the “big” city. Little jobs through school gave me more hands on experience as I learned the in’s and out’s of a design business. My internship was completed with Maestri Studio – a residential architecture and design firm. After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree I worked for a large commercial design firm. I then moved on to a high end residential furniture company. My design firm was opened as a part time side job for extra income. Knowing if I harvested my relationships and built a clientele I could make it full time. I’ve always been the sit back and observe the type of person, the little mental notes took over the years of working with designers and for large corporate structures have proven well in running my design firm. My story is still evolving – I am still building a strong foundation for my company and my life. Finding inspiration through travel, culture, and idols keeps me growing as a company and person.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. But any road worth taking shouldn’t be the easy way out. I believe our proudest moments most often come from challenging ourselves and pushing through uncomfortable times. My biggest obstacle is overcoming fear. Fear has a great way of making us anxious and over think the simplest things. Trading in a steady paycheck to conquer your own business is no easy feat. I have to remind myself often to remain brave.
Cody Brown Interiors – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Cody Brown Interiors was founded in 2018 in Dallas, TX. We are a residential design firm specializing in new construction, remodels, and furnishings. From an extensive remodel to a simple room refresh, I take pride in what I do and design spaces that have a voice—creating environments that are inspired by nature, art, and culture—approaching each project to create warm, timeless, and unique interiors—known for spaces that are equal parts classic and refined.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as accomplishing a purpose. I believe each one of us is given a purpose in life. If we are using our purpose to benefit the greater good of society, then we are successful. You can tell when someone is successful through their energy and attitude. I can measure my success through repeat and referral business from my clients. The relationships I have built with these clients is what keeps my business growing.
