The move to Dallas was not one of the accidents but intent. I met my wife in Charlotte, NC, while living there with my sister in a business meeting. Wildly enough, she had caught my eye after following each other for some time and reading her interview in “Voyage Dallas” how crazy is that!
At a time in my life I describe as a pivot as a young entrepreneur and taking the next step in my career. I quit my job at the time, quit graduate school and decided to move 1015 miles to begin my career in corporate consulting and marry my now wife. I’d do it all over again a 1000x.
I absolutely love what I do. In my corporate career, I minimize the amount of federal income taxes business owners pay through payroll, benefits administration and tax strategies as a strategic partner to 54 accountants and CPAs across DFW. I along with this responsibility, I’m a trusted partner to 265 current clients across the United States. Ranging from new small business owners to industry leaders in tech and music. Being a serial entrepreneur myself and consulting for a Fortune 500 company allows for a unique perspective and relationship with every owner. My joy is now in educating a new generation of business owners and connecting the dots where originally there were none.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road whatsoever. One of the greatest struggles I’ve had in consulting is overcoming the education gap. For many business owner’s especially minorities, there’s not only a lack of representation but a lack of demonstration. Access to information and knowledge can be an effective tool in the longevity of a company.
Like medicine, taxes, compliance, and back-office processes can be a bad taste in business owners’ mouths that only gets worse when not addressed. The challenge is getting those who need the cure the most to realize their sick. Not to go to deep into the metaphor but what I often find as the biggest challenge is the disbelief in outsourcing and what’s truly possible.
Boone & Associates – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Boone & Associates offers a range of services helping business owners streamline their back-office processes, optimize their time, and help them achieve their bottom line. Acting much like a brokerage we are able to connect the dots for our clients to solutions they may not know exist. We were known for doing so in a way that is transparent, modern, timely, and most importantly, with integrity.
What I’m most proud of as a company is being able to foster organic relationships and build an ecosystem around every owner. I believe there’s no such thing as a one size fits all for a company. A culture of winning is made up of millions of small decisions that lead to big successes. It’s an honor to serve others. That’s what set’s us apart.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
It’s impossible to name just one. Consulting brings about so many unique relationships that sometimes go noticed due to the amount of people you meet. I’d say one that’s transpired the most is the smile that overtakes a business owner’s face when they realize a solution, once quantified is going to allow them more time with their family, friends, or community. Helping people get back to what they love to do and enjoy the most is my passion. That is the moment I’m the proudest of.
