Today we’d like to introduce you to Colby Brown.
Colby, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born and raised in Muskogee, OK my childhood was unique. Growing up the fifth born of eleven children I quickly realized the importance finances played in daily life. Although my parents loved us all dearly, they didn’t always have the financial means for a family so large and like many other families, they were never taught how to win with money. As I grew older, I always knew I wanted to help people and make an impact in the world. So I thought back to what would have helped make a major difference in the life of myself and my family. That led me into financial services where I became one of the youngest licensed individuals in the state receiving my investment licenses while attending the University of Oklahoma. After graduating with my bachelor’s in business I decided to put my skills to the test and created my own game plan. In 10 months, I paid off $20,000 in student loans and became debt-free. Accomplishing that milestone was motivation for me to help others achieve the same for themselves. Now as a financial professional I get to help create financial plans and coach families to reach their goals in becoming debt-free and financially independent.
Has it been a smooth road?
I think the road to your purpose is never a smooth journey. The challenges are the potholes in the way that over time helps you to become a more experienced driver. Being an 18yr old with dreams of running my own financial brokerage seemed far fetched for someone with my background. Surprisingly my early struggles came from the people that cared about me the most, my family and peers. They couldn’t see the vision I had for my life and gave advice they felt was best for me even though it was not what I wanted. Next was getting other people to take me seriously. Being so young in my profession it was common for my clients to be twice my age so they doubted if I had enough experience. Eventually, I was able to overcome by applying the principles and concepts in my own life and by bringing value to others through financial education, game planning and staying true to my calling to positively impact the world.
Tell us more about the business.
Our mission is to help families earn more income, become properly protected, debt-free and financial independent.
How we do that is by teaching people how money works so they can make informed decisions about how to manage their finances. We provide a Financial Needs Analysis (FNA) to give clients a snapshot of their financial position and we offer a variety of products and services geared towards helping people reach their goals.
We specialize in term life insurance, investments and debt elimination and can also assist with mortgage loans, a will, legal services, home and auto insurance, home security system and identity theft.
We are committed to doing what’s right 100% of the time. Always working in the best interest of our clients.
What sets us apart from traditional financial institutions is we don’t just sell products instead we take a personal approach and build strategies catered to help people reach their dreams.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
A Gallup poll found only about 1/3 of Americans (32%) maintain a household budget. MarketWatch reports that 19% have $0 saved to cover an emergency expense, 31% have less than $500 in emergency savings, 49% of Americans are “concerned, anxious or fearful about their current financial well-being”
These statistics show the very real need for financial education which provides a major opportunity for my industry.
