Coleman, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always enjoyed working hard at work worth doing well.
I started my professional life as an Air Force officer and F-16 Fighter Pilot. It was a tremendous privilege to serve alongside outstanding people while accomplishing a difficult mission. I particularly enjoyed the daily teamwork that was required to be successful.
Through five assignments, including two combat tours, I learned well that no goal is impossible to achieve for those willing to plan well and work hard.
After 11 years in the military, I went to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers in their New York City office. The team at PwC was incredibly talented, and I learned how to apply the leadership lessons from the military to generate value for my clients.
In the fall of 2016 I joined a new team when I became the owner and CEO of Work Wear Safety Shoes. Like the Air Force and PwC, the people at Work Wear are committed to their mission. We sell work boots and other safety shoes to keep people safe and comfortable on the job. More importantly, we pride ourselves in partnering with our customer companies to help them manage their safety shoe programs efficiently and effectively.
I feel blessed to have been able to lead such motivated and talented teams. It’s a great privilege to be able to lead the team at Work Wear as we take care of our customers.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s an adage in the military that the member serves while the family sacrifices. That was certainly true for me and my family.
We were proud to serve and we learned to strengthen our resilience in the face of uncertainty and sometimes tragedy. We learned to take unexpected TDY’s (military business trips), long periods of time apart, and a dangerous day job as a fact of life.
My marriage with my wife is stronger for the struggles. We consider ourselves blessed by the struggles and the way we’ve grown because of them.
Professionally, the trials have provided perspective that helps keep me grounded through the ups and downs of business and life.

As a work boot distributor, we sell over 35 brands (and 350 styles!) of safety shoes. Our shoes are not only the best names in comfort and quality (Wolverine, Justin, Thorogood, Timberline, etc), but also cover the full range of safety features and needs. We can develop a safety shoe program for any application for any budget.
My team includes experts who have been in the safety shoe business for over 20 years.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Work Wear has been a North Texas based company since its founding in 1980. As a Fort Worth native myself, I can’t imagine a place I’d rather be.
I would recommend Texas as an excellent place for anyone to launch their career or grow it.
Indeed, as I talk to friends who are evaluating their options after their military service is over, I encourage them to consider Dallas and Fort Worth. The people are friendly, the business environment is great, and the BBQ and TexMex are the best in the world!
