Meet Colin Johnson of Cloak Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colin Johnson.

Colin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Colin Johnson and I am a professional artist and the owner of Cloak Collective, in Duncanville Texas, just South of Dallas. I was raised in Duncanville until I was 13 years old, so starting a business in my hometown is truly an honor. I have been a professional tattoo and fine artist for 14 years now, and have had the chance to work in many amazing studios around the country. My artwork consists of tattoos, oil paintings, murals, custom sneakers, and graphic design.
I have been happily married to my wife Meredith for over 10 years now, and will be celebrating our daughter’s 3rd birthday this year!
Cloak Collective opened in May of 2024, with a vision of providing workspace options to different types of fine artists, and meeting the needs of the artists in our community.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My Journey has had its ups and downs, like any artist making their way. I was always intimidated by the idea of ownership, and doing it properly. Thankfully, I was able to find a mentor to help me overcome those hurdles, and show me that business can be done in a creative and honorable way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cloak Collective ?
The vision behind Cloak Collective was to create an environment where different types of artists, of all skill levels, could find an affordable creative workspace.

Cloak Collective offers both private rooms and shared spaces for tattoo artists and fine artists to do their work. We believe that by bringing like-minded individuals together, the opportunity for collaborations, building connections, expanding clientele, and forming a community with one another is within reach.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a pretty out going kid who was always on a skateboard, getting into trouble, or being creative in some way.
