Today we’d like to introduce you to Collin Grayson.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Collin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2002 the same way a lot of us did, I suppose…I was searching for something. I was looking for a healthier way of life, a competitive outlet, a social circle – I was looking for a way to exercise that didn’t seem like exercise, quite frankly. I found all that and so much more.
I began teaching in 2005 and have had the incredible honor to work with some of the greatest individuals I’ve ever met. I’ve always tried to keep a well-balanced academy – one that welcomes the person looking to lose 10 lbs the same that we welcome the competitor that wants to become a World Champion. We make sure to celebrate ALL of our victories, from no longer having to take high blood pressure medication to winning gold medals at the biggest tournaments in the world.
We recognize that each student’s journey is just that – THEIRS. No one accomplishes anything without an amazing supporting staff behind them, and that’s what I try to instill in my students. We are a FAMILY. We cheer for each other’s fights, but we’ll also celebrate our children’s birthday parties, raise funds for someone in a bind, and we’ll be the first call and pick you up when you’re feeling down.
We are One Team. We are One Family. We are Caio Terra BJJ.
Has it been a smooth road?
There’s been a lot of struggles along the way, but none that stayed in my way – and I think that’s a big difference. Nothing worth having ever comes easy, and it takes some sticktoitiveness to have longevity in owning a Jiu-Jitsu academy.
At the heart of everything, I’ve kept my passion and fire for Jiu-Jitsu burning. When I teach beginners, I relate to their innocence and excitement. When I teach advanced students, I fuel off of their desire to reach the next level in their training. When you truly love something, you can’t fail at it – regardless of the struggles along the way.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Caio Terra Academy – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which is a martial art based on taking down and controlling your opponent – then using leverage to submit them with a series of joint locks and chokes. One of the greatest things about our art is that all of this can be done with relative safety in training with an experienced partner.
In 2013, we joined the Caio Terra Association, under the tutelage and guidance of Professor Caio Terra, an 11-time World Champion and one of the most amazing minds our sport has ever seen. The support of our team Worldwide is second to none, as we periodically have teammates from all over the world training with us.
What sets us apart is our philosophy and attitude towards our teammates and Jiu-Jitsu family. We don’t start and stop at the edge of the mat. We’ll attend your wedding and we’ll welcome your child into the world. In short, we celebrate LIFE – and all its victories along the way.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Irving has been incredibly welcoming. My family moved to the Valley Ranch area about a year ago from Rockwall and we couldn’t be happier – the people, the amenities, everything has truly been a blessing.
