Hi Colt, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
It all started with a need to feel like himself again. An athlete all his life, Dallas native Colt Power was no stranger to chronic pain from injuries. Now in his 30s, Colt was also dealing with ADD—managing those symptoms with two different prescriptions—and experiencing anxiety in his daily life. He knew this dependence on pharmaceuticals was taking a toll on him physically, mentally, and financially, but he had yet to find a better solution. One day, Colt drove past a CBD store. Like many Texans, he’d heard of CBD and knew of some people using it with great results, but he wasn’t quite sure what it was or if it was even technically legal. It all seemed a little too good to be true, but Colt pushed past his skepticism to see if this unconventional approach just might work for him.
He started including CBD oil drops in his daily routine and was surprised to find that, after a few weeks’ consistent use, his knee pain subsided. He was able to work out again and even had less anxiety. After more continuous use, he found he had an easier time focusing and was able to stop using his ADD medications completely.
Having experienced such incredible results, Colt and his wife Reagan began recommending CBD products to their friends and family. Reagan, an ICU nurse, had always been passionate about holistic, preventative healthcare and was excited to embrace this approach. The problem was that they didn’t know where to send people. So, with Reagan’s support, Colt bought a tent and some lights, devoured a book about CBD, and began growing legal hemp plants in their upstairs bedroom. As Colt experimented, Reagan tested. A front-line worker in the midst of a global pandemic and mother of a newborn, she was experiencing an overwhelming level of stress and fatigue. The two leaned into developing some of the most carefully crafted cannabis products in Texas, and they were blown away by the relief it provided them, both physically and emotionally. One tent turned to three tents, and pretty soon even that wasn’t enough. By February 2021, the Power family at-home grow operation was ready for an upgrade. Colt leased a warehouse big enough to support their dream: crafting premium, full-spectrum cannabis products that could help anyone feel better and optimize their wellness from there. From farming to extracting to processing and manufacturing, they’d be one of only two brands in Texas to do it all in-house. Power Biopharms was official, and they needed some help managing a now-massive grow house.
Nick Williams had been working as a chef for 20 years when he got laid off because of the pandemic. When the owner of a farm supply store where he and Colt both shopped suggested the two meets, they immediately hit it off. Nick had been growing hemp plants for years and had also healed with the help of cannabis. It has been a very turbulent road of ups and downs in this new industry filled with a lot of competition, changing regulations, and a lack of oversight. We have had to be constantly prepared to pivot and adjust to respond to new legislation as well as consumer preferences. Operating our own farm, extraction lab, and product manufacturing have definitely had its share of challenges and learning curves, but we are extremely proud of all that we have accomplished so far.
