Today we’d like to introduce you to Contrina Jenkins.
Contrina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My intentions weren’t to create a production company, I originally only wanted to see if I could write a play. I passed the play on to my friend Vincent Johnson and he thought we could put it on ourselves. Courtney Elaine joined us on the venture by doing Set & Graphic Design. Once we did the first play, we were hooked. It went from a play to producing movies
Has it been a smooth road?
Sometimes, it was very hard not to give up. There were many times we struggle with trying to complete a project. Faith, team work, and strong work ethic is what kept us focus. We had to learn to block out the negativity and focus on the goal we were trying to achieve. Never allow anyone to tell you what you can’t accomplish. What God has for you is for you.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with JalaWorld Productions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Jalaworld Productions is an independent production company that is dedicated to entertain and educate today’s society through various performance arts. Our hallmarks include stage plays, and films, using thought-provoking works of fiction as a tool to enlighten and empower others. JalaWorld was created in 2009. Our productions include three-stage plays Karma, Love Is, and Forever Yours and 2 full-featured films Love Is…, Pipe Dreams, and the soon to be released short film Definition of Manhood. One of the things that I’m most proud of is the messages that our productions rely upon. We entertain and make the audience laugh but we teach at the same time. Bringing awareness. We have cover topics such as self-love, AIDS, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and acceptance of differences. Our goal is to make each production better than the one before. So far, we’ve been able to do that. Growing each time.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and the least?
I live in Houston.
How welcoming Houston is, so many people come here to start over or to raise their family searching for a better life. People are able to accomplish many of their goals due to our cost of living is lower than in most cities. We offer city life and country life.
What I like least about our city is that the Art Scene/Creative Scene is still considered to be underground. Many people are still unaware of all the local talent Houston has.
