Today we’d like to introduce you to Coral Maldonado.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
What can I say, I find inspiration, and I go with it. It all started about 6 years ago or so. I took a few pictures of a friend with my mother’s digital camera, and my mother insisted that I had an “eye”. Later that Christmas, my parents bought me my first DSLR camera, my mother’s idea. It actually took me a few months to open it, until I suggested to take my sister’s photos with her husband. A few days later I posted those photos on social media with mere editing that was included on my laptop, and that’s where it all started. What started as a hobby, became a full-time job, and I love it. I owe this all to my mother, she has always believed in my creativity, and has always supported me and my crazy ideas.
Please tell us about your art.
When I photograph, I like to ask questions. Especially when it comes to seniors, maternity or engagement sessions. I ask about their dreams, their goals, how they met, how nervous they are for their big day, I ask for their stories, and that is what keeps me going. Their stories are many times, and most times not only what inspire me, but they are stories of the battles they face, the people they have lost, and it is more than a pleasure to be able to leave them with a memory of a photograph that they can forever treasure. I get to witness love, I get to witness laughter and fun, and I also get to witness confidence, something that most of my clients don’t realize. I am blessed to have met such interesting, talented, wonderful clients, many whom have become like family, and so many little ones that I have had the fortune of watching grow.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I’d say trusting the artist. My usual clients trust my vision, but new clients can be skeptical in trying something new. I would advise to go with it and make the artist’s vision a reality, and you might fall in love with the result!
