Meet Cormeshia Batty of SheBatty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cormeshia Batty.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cormeshia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Mother of two, wife, full-time technical writer/editor. I’m also a beauty blogger and freelance writer -founder and editor-in-chief of www.shebatty.com

To make a long story short, I’ve loved writing since elementary school. I also enjoy photography and fashion -a true artist/creative at heart. Unfortunately, for me, my parents are not artists or creatives, and they encouraged me to find a more “lucrative” career. I listened. I tried everything from nursing, to radiology, to accounting, but nothing made me truly happy. After spending over fifteen years doing finance and accounting work, I decided to tap back into my artsy-fartsy, creative self.

I’d been blogging sporadically for more than five years -as a pastime and because writing is therapeutic for me, but nothing serious at all. Towards the end of 2016, I decided to change that -I’m a good writer and I wanted to let the world know that, so I put the wheels in motion late November 2016.

I researched, put a plan in place and took action. By January of 2017, I signed my first freelance contract and launched SheBatty.com in February. Since then, everything about 2017 has been beyond my wildest dreams and imagination! I’ve reached my goal of having work published in a print magazine in 2017 -“Mama, I made it!” I have also landed additional freelance work and my blog is doing well.

Look for Great things to come from SheBatty in 2018!

Has it been a smooth road?
Yes and no. To be honest, everything that I have struggled with so far has been me being in my head, doubting myself. I’m also an introvert, so I struggle with that. But aside from that, there hasn’t been many struggles. There are times that things haven’t happened when I wanted them to, or how I would have liked them to, but it all worked out in the end. Plus, I’m doing the work necessary to alleviates as many obstacles and challenges as possible.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SheBatty story. Tell us more about the business.
SheBatty.com is my website. I offer freelance writing services. I create content. I also blog and offer event coverage on my site as well as beauty and fashion collaborations.

SheBatty is a storyteller -Everyone has a story to tell, but not everyone is a storyteller. SheBatty is known as a beauty expert and beauty writer (I like to call myself a beauty journalist).

I am most proud when my work touches someone.

What sets SheBatty apart is me! I’m crazy, sexy, cool. I’m quality over quantity. I have a passion for writing -nobody can tell your story the way I can! I’m a beast!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
So I’m not sure if we’ll ever get back reading about news in the morning paper, and they say that people don’t read as much as they used to. But, I think we do -it’s just a different form. Since history repeats itself, I’d love to see more magazines circulating in print vs. digital.

As far as beauty and fashion in 5 to 10 years, I’m sure it will be gender fluid and space-aged mixed with some retro style. I’m ready for it and can’t wait to write about it so you can read all about it in a kick-ass magazine spread with great visuals!
