Today we’d like to introduce you to Cory Fredericksen.
Cory, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I love to tell my story because it helps me to be thankful for the journey I’ve been on. Growing up in Wisconsin, close to my grandparents, taught me the work ethic I hold today. Work hard, love people and always give the best you have each day.
After graduating from college with a horticulture degree, I enjoyed working as a floral designer. I also coached both a women’s college volleyball and basketball team. It was at one of our games that I met my husband (I was the coach and he was the referee). He asked me out after the game was over and the rest is history. We’ve been married for almost 32 years and have a beautiful daughter, an amazingly kind and loving son-in-law, a joyful two-year-old granddaughter, plus another little girl on the way.
Over the years we’ve been able to enjoy different parts of the country, living in seven different states. Before moving to Texas, we spent 23 years in Bonita Springs, Florida where our daughter was able to live close by her grandparents for most of her life. After college she got married and settled in Texas. Several years later we decided to move to Texas so we could carry on the tradition and be close to our grandchildren.
While living in Florida I experienced some health challenges that made me decide to learn about ways to improve my health. Over the next few years I became interested in alternative therapies and as I began to incorporate some of these therapies into my everyday life, I started to see vast improvements in my health. The more my health continued to improve, the more excited I became about sharing my knowledge with others. I began teaching nutrition classes, earned my yoga teacher certification and became a Certified Reflexologist. In January 2017, I opened my own reflexology practice, Wellness Through Reflexology, in Carrollton, Texas.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would like to say that it was a smooth road, but opening a business for the first time had its challenges, especially being a new Texas resident. I was really nervous about making sure I got everything right and in order, even down to having the right color paint on the walls, before opening my doors.
It was also challenging to start a business and find clients while having limited personal contacts in Texas. However, I soon realized that Texas was filled with amazing, friendly people and getting to know them was easier than I had ever anticipated.
I can look back now and see that these struggles were necessary for building a successful business. I honestly feel that I have the best job ever. When my clients leave their sessions feeling relaxed and restored it brings me so much joy.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wellness Through Reflexology story. Tell us more about the business.
Wellness Through Reflexology is located in the heart of Carrollton serving all of Dallas and Fort Worth. I’m here to serve anyone wanting to make healthy changes to their lifestyle. The Ingham Method of Reflexology that I utilize in my sessions is vastly different than the foot spas around the DFW area.
Reflexology is the scientific study of reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way, a type of preventative maintenance.
Reflexology has been known to assist with:
*Pain reduction
*Increased mobility
*Improved sleeping patterns
*Sharper thought processes
*Restoration of body functions
Doctors agree that over 75% of our health challenges can be linked to nervous stress and tension. Reflexology improves nerve and blood supply and helps the body to normalize. As the body comes into balance, it then has an amazing ability to heal itself. Reflexology is a relaxation tool that complements a well-rounded healthy lifestyle.
As a company I’m most proud of being able to serve my clients with love, compassion and integrity. My intention is to be a presence of calm strength so my clients have a safe space to let go and relax while allowing the self-healing process to take place. My heart has always been to share what I know, listen and help my clients on their wellness journey.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
As more and more people are learning about the benefits of reflexology and how it can improve their health in a natural way, this industry will continue to expand. I’m thrilled being a part of its growth.
