Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Warren.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was working in Social Work when I was contacted about being on a TLC house competition show called Four Houses. I went through a series of Skype interviews and was chosen to be one of the four Dallas homeowners on the show. I did not win the competition, but after the airing I started getting calls asking me to help homeowners in their home. I had always decorated for myself, and it was an exciting and steep learning curve to help other people.
Once I started, I realized that what had naturally come very easy for me seemed to make a huge difference in people’s satisfaction in their homes and even their lives. I had never realized that I had a skill that people needed and could impact them in a really thrilling way. I was shocked to see the excitement for them when their home was transformed into a welcoming, warm space. People began to tell me stories about how they had neighbors over for dinner, or invited a bible study or baby shower to their home, or even made dinner in their new kitchen for the first time in 2 years.
I realized that I was not only making their spaces more beautiful, but investing in their family by investing in their home. I now feel like I have the best and one of the most important jobs in the world! 🙂
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The design aspect is the fun part for me. It is like picking out the best cupcake at the bakery– delicious and fun and easy. The biggest struggle has been the learning curve of building a business. Starting from the very beginning, learning how to read clients and meet their needs, learning which type of clients are not a good fit, and now, juggling a growing business and the paperwork that comes with that. While I love the creative aspect and the business aspect, I do not love the spreadsheets and bookkeeping and all it takes to keep the machine running. Thankfully I am learning to surround myself with people that do love that so I can focus on clients and making sure they have a great experience. However, I feel like each step of the growth is also very exciting. I can hardly complain!
Courtney Warren Home – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in a farmhouse glam look, working one on one with a client to bring passion and fun to the design project. I am looking to create a WOW factor- not just recreate something that you can find on every Pin or blog post.
I listen to my clients, to what they want, what they need, and what their dreams are for the space, then bring them ideas to make it a reality in ways they would have never thought of.
I am proud that each of my clients feel like they are my only one that they tell their friends about me, and they can’t stop gushing about their newly designed space.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When I was contacted by Better Homes and Gardens Special Publications to be featured as the first house in the Best of Flea Market Style magazine, then again in Do It Yourself Magazine.
