Meet Courtney Wright of The Hair Qing/Slayed University in Mesquite/Desoto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Wright.

Courtney, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey in the Beauty Industry began in May 2014 as a student at Ogle-Dallas. I later transferred to Regency beauty institute Mesquite where I completed the cosmetology program summer 2015 And became licensed September 2015. I learned the importance of marketing and branding, networking and advanced training early on. Therefore i began training and taking classes with some of Dallas Top Stylists, as well as Traveling to train with some Top Social Media Hairstylist/Influencers. I was fortunate to be able to become a salon assistant at Good Hair &Co., and it helped groomed me to be the Extensions Extraordinaire , I am today. I built my clientele, my brands awareness and the name for myself “The Hair Qing” all while being a home-based upcoming stylist, Hungry for more.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been anything but smooth, but where’s the challenge in a smooth road? The beauty industry is forever evolving so you must adapt to change quickly, stay with the trends and not be scared to invest in your craft continuously.

There will be ups where you’ll be being your best You, and then there will be  downs (especially when it’s slow), but this is when you take time to learn something new, add new services and really evaluate and understand what you want for your brand.

Even if you begin to doubt yourself you have to “ Push Through”.

I’ve had to sacrifice so much financially to make sure I’m well educated in my field and also sacrificed time away from my son to really Grind my way to where I’m at and where I’m going.”The Glo-Up will be Lit!”

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Hair Qing – as a stylist my main goal is to provide exceptional hair care and customer service. With, being known for my Seamless Sew Ins, my extension services are Trendy yet Protective/Healthy and always Slayed. I also have a product and extensions line “The Qing Collection “ re-launching and expanding soon.

I decided to have Sorority Themed branding as it allowed me to creatively market for my brand, to attract a wide variety of women who know identify with Beauty,Class & Style and most importantly Loyalty! As i want it to be more than just a trip to the Salon, and building of a #Slay•ISH SISTERHOOD

I couldn’t imagine that within the first few years of my career i would have built some really genuine relationships with some very dope and talented individuals all over the world, I’ve also had the opportunity to teach my own classes, and to also be a part of a group class as an educator with two stylist in which i had trained with before and was inspired by , to styling Tamar’s dancers at the Great Xscape Tour

I truly  “Slay, In my Own Lane “

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas would be a great place to start any beauty based business. Just make sure your business is in order (License, certifications, etc.).

For someone starting out I would express the importance of mentorship, there is nothing like having someone to help guide you through the industry, you can avoid a lot of mistakes this way and also learn longevity and how to maintain your brand without solely depending on social media, “there are so many consumers that are not on social media.” and you need to know how to secure that bag also.

Also, barter find other professionals/influencers where you can either trade knowledge or services, that both of you can benefit from. Link Up

Most importantly, when you jump out there, DON’T LET UP.

That was a really nice interview. Being one of Courtney’s clients for over 3 years, I can definitely say that she takes pride in her work and her business. She always find ways to stay on top of her gift. I am really proud to call her my stylist.
