Today we’d like to introduce you to Crysta Barrera.
Crysta, before we jump into specific questions about the company, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started haphazardly. When I was 16, my mother inherited a Pie Safe when my grandmother passed away. It had about 15 layers of paint on it, and there was no use for a Pie Safe in the 1980’s. I stripped the paint, stained the furniture, and turned it into a liquor cabinet. I did a few pieces for friends and family. When I was in the military and money was tight, I would redo furniture. It went from a hobby to a business, and 30 plus years later I still love repurposed and painting furniture.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is never an easy road to achieving anything. I say that you either win or you learn, and I learn DAILY. I am a disabled Veteran with health issues. There are always bumps in the road, from finding the right products, sales space, art studio space. If you love what you do, you will find a way.
We’d love to hear more about your company.
Litter 2 Glitter is all about saving furniture from ending up in the landfill. Houses aren’t made for large TV cabinets, buffets, China hutches, etc. so we repurpose them into coffee bars, liquor cabinets, or other for any other special-purpose the customer may need. I’m most proud of what my company does for the community. I often get calls from people that have a need for furniture or other household items. We do our best to partner with organizations such as Mydonationhouse.org to fulfill those needs.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Currently, we are looking for a space to open our storefront so that we can offer more classes and more unique items—a dedicated space for our Live tutorials and space to work on multiple projects. We currently carry three paint lines (Dixie Belle Paint, Miss Lillian’s Paint, and Modern Trends Paint) and Will soon be carrying more paint lines, stencils, furniture transfers and more.
