Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Delgado.
Crystal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Honestly, if you know me, you know I can’t focus on just one single thing. I take pride in feeling that I am a woman of many talents. I could talk about how I started acting, playing guitar, horseriding, singing, or doing photography/modeling. However, to keep it simple, the answer is: Dad, Let me explain; dad bought me the Winx Club DVD and I memorized a whole episode at age six in one day just for fun. That’s how my whole life got started. I realized, challenging myself to do that was more than just a past-time. Fast forward six years and I was signed with an agent and pursuing acting full-time. Due to a lack of money, I could not continue my journey as fast as I’d liked to. However, in the midst of being angry about not being able to pursue acting in LA, I would soon learn music and a guitar would become some of my bestest friends.
Again, I saw dad playing that beautiful instrument one day and knew instantly. I had to learn to play guitar for him one day. Fast forward to 14 years old. I had taught myself how to play guitar (after several attempts and “giving up” phases) with the help of YouTube, and only YouTube. Unbelievable, I know! Music & theatre became my #1 priority because I simply felt alive doing them. And the more my love for the music flourished, so did my need for money. This is where photography came along. I saved up by waitressing for my first camera and was able to explore my love for photography and the beauty of being behind the camera as much as in front of it while continuing to spoil my 6-string. Shortly thereafter, I began horseriding and I can honestly say horseriding became a huge factor in learning how to leave behind the doubt and anxiety from what I thought was my failures behind. I struggled to express myself and show my talents to the world for the longest. Today, I am still learning that those “failures” that “lack of money,” all the times I tried to “give up,” are what makes what I can do, what I stand for, and who I am so much more.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. How boring would that be anyway, right? There were things that affected how many opportunities I could take and continue to take. However, I wouldn’t want it any other way. I wouldn’t be as driven and independent as I am today if those struggles never existed. And I continue to grow as I face challenges daily because of how I grew up, how I was raised, and how I am a Latina pursuing big city girl dreams; but what keeps me going is that any kid out there feeling anything close to what I have felt as well can use my story as their string of faith and be sure that one day they will fulfill their dreams.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
My main focus right now and that most people will recognize me for on social media, is my music. Being a Latina, I have come to realize that one of the things I take greatest pride in is my culture and where I come from. That being said, I am able to reach out and touch more people by focusing on both Spanish & English music. I don’t stray away from anything new and I think that is something people can really appreciate. I appreciate all music so I can go from one genre to the next and enjoy it just as much!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from my childhood is hosting and performing in my elementary school’s talent show! I thought this was the coolest moment I’d ever have because I took on two major roles and had the fastest costume change in history, obviously! I remember having one skirt under the other and just yanking it off so fast being the curtains, it was my last year there (5th grade) so I had to leave with a bang, what can I say lol! 😂
