Meet Crystal Hosea of CH Designs in Stephenville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Hosea.

Crystal, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I took a simple beginners silversmith class in Austin with my parent’s neighbor, well she forced me to take it with her, but one class and that’s all it took. I was hooked. I started my small silversmith business called CH Designs May 2019 after taking that class. At first it started at a hobby and all my friends wanted the jewelry I was making; I couldn’t make it fast enough! Shortly after creating my Etsy, business boomed. Orders were coming in faster and faster. I took one simple beginners’ class and learned the bare minimum. Mostly everything that I am doing now was self-taught, lots of trial and error. When I started last May, never in a million years did I think it would be so successful! Currently I am in the running for the 2020 Girl Boss Award for Best Western Silversmith. I’m really proud of how far I have come in just a year!

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been a fairly smooth road. I just went through my first tax season, which was a little stressful but wasn’t bad. But other than that, business has been good to me. I thought covid-19 would have slowed business down a bit, but the complete opposite happened! Each month orders increase and I couldn’t be more thankful. I am very blessed to be able to do what I love.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a local silversmith that specializes in custom cattle brand jewelry. I started out making more Navajo/modern style of jewelry. But I got a message on Instagram asking if I could make their family cattle brand into a necklace, and of course I wanted to at least try! After a little trial and error, her brand came out amazing! I knew right then and their things were going to change. After I posted her brand the messages started flowing in like crazy. Since that day, 90% of my custom orders are cattle brands, horse brands, or family brands. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind just making brand for the rest of my life. Every brand is different, and seeing how happy people are to be able to wear their family brand everyday makes me so happy! Besides brands, I do make turquoise initial necklaces, which is our best seller. Between brands and initial necklaces, I stay very busy. I continuously amaze myself every day. My business Instagram is growing larger and larger every day. And I just can’t believe all the support I get for my jewelry.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do all my business through social media, but I am hoping to start doing fairs and shows after covid-19 is over. It’s always been a dream of mine to sell out at a show or fair and I feel the Dallas area would be perfect for that! My jewelry is so diverse that there is something for everyone.

Pricing:

  • Custom brand necklaces range $95-130
