Meet Crystal Mason

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Mason.

Crystal, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a REALTOR® that is new to the industry. I contemplated becoming a real estate agent in 2017, but I never made any progress towards doing so until January 2018. However, I started classes online and eventually stopped before finishing. After a girls night at Top Golf, it came up that I was in the process of taking the classes and one of the ladies was so intrigued by it that she actually sparked my interest in finishing what I started. In June 2018, I enrolled in one live-classroom taught real estate course. It’s hard for me to commit to things when I cannot see the end result or figure out how I can make it all work. I was really unsure how I could make the classes fit into my schedule.  After the first class I knew I wanted to keep going with it. I created a schedule and finished all the classes that month. I just stuck to it and dedicated myself to it. I took the exams in August and became officially licensed and joined the Keller Williams Dallas Park Cities office. Looking back, I remember how nervous I was because I was trying to balance my job, night and weekend classes, and being a single mom.

Now, I have transitioned into real estate full time. I needed to make the effort to actually learn the business and I couldn’t do so while working another full-time job. There is so much that I’m learning every day and so much more that I have to learn. I decided that I wanted to take a chance on myself. Coupled with that is the opportunity to spend more time with my child. She pays attention to everything I do and I want to make sure to show her that she can believe for bigger things. At the very least, she can try her best. It’s okay to fail, but fail forward and keep going.

By no means did I accomplish this on my own. It takes a village to raise a child and mine is very supportive. They keep me accountable and they always lend a helping hand. It is so important to have good people around you.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road is not smooth. When I made the decision to leave my full-time job there was a lot crying, praying, self-limiting thoughts, intimidation, outside skepticism, etc. I’m shy naturally so that’s the first roadblock–pushing past fear. Then, I also have to make sure I have enough positivity to pour into my child. However, looking at the possibility of success and how this can ultimately change the outcome of life for my family and I, gave me that burning desire to JUMP. Starting with talking to those in the industry and purchasing books and industry related material to immerse myself in this craft.

Keeping my faith and a positive mindset is a daily task. Just affirming myself and getting out of my own way helps me to keep moving forward.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a real estate agent with Keller William Dallas Park Cities. I am a buyers agent, listing agent, I also can do leases and apartment locating. My market center is located in Park Cities, but I serve the entire Dallas Metroplex.

I am proud of myself. Not in a narcissistic sense, but because it is so easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing and make comparisons or to look for gratification from others.

I believe that no one else can do what I do like I do it. Even though there are so many agents and people that have been in the industry for decades, it is evolving. You have to be able to pick up and evolve with it and keep the same level of service. I’ve had to pick up, change and readjust for the majority of my life so it is a part of who I am.

What were you like growing up?
I loved school when I was young. When I talk to my mom about my childhood, she always says that I was always so quiet and kept everything in. I am a middle child and my sisters are totally opposite from me, they both are very outspoken. That’s probably why I was so quiet –because they did let me talk, lol. They clash with each other and I try to keep the peace amongst us. I love our bond.

My family was in the military so we moved often, but I think that was a good thing for me since I am a shy person. I had to acclimate to different people and environments and make new friends. I have always liked getting to know people that are different from myself. It’s almost a contrast to my nature, but I do not like being put in a “box” and I like getting to know people that live and think outside of boxes.
