We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road to success is never easy. Thankfully with my competitive nature, I continue to move forward, record mistakes, and strategically plan for the future. In the beginning when I was completing my internship, I struggled with the idea of being “stuck” in a spa performing foot scrubs. I knew the value in body work and how essential it is in performing at one’s peak. I never quite imagined working at or in a gym. I’m so grateful for the opportunity that Equinox (previous employment) had provided. It was a great experience being able to grow a business on a corporate budget. It financially allowed me to experiment business strategies without the fear of failing and having to close the business doors. It also allowed for much needed personal growth and really lay out the format of just who and what I wanted to be as a massage therapist. I love foot scrubs, don’t get me wrong. But I’d like to leave that up to my pedicurist.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Crystal Massages story. Tell us more about the business.
What I am most proud of is the ability to help people. There truly is nothing more rewarding than meeting with a client who has been stuck in pain and being able to alleviate it (in some cases, not most) in minutes. I find reward in educating my clients as to what might possibly be causing pain. Having them to become more mindful of simple daily habits that could be triggering unnecessary pain.
I’d like to say what sets me apart is that it’s not just a 90-minute session. It can also be an educational format for my clients, so that they can understand the value in body work.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck? Interesting question. Does one ever truly have luck? If I got lucky, per say, I’d like to say it was taking a random chance and walking in to Equinox to scope things out in a sense as this chance encounter lead me to where I am today. I’m very much a “people” person and I guess I would say that I’m lucky, especially here in my new home of Dallas, that people are so helpful and really want to see me succeed. I’m so grateful at the tremendous support from practically strangers, throwing referrals my way. This truly is a great state. I’ve never felt more at home. I’m originally born and raised in Los Angeles, CA.
