Meet Fancy Duffey of Cycle with Fancy in Oak Cliff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Fancy Duffey.

Fancy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began indoor cycling in 2014 and it changed my perspective on life. As a new rider cycling was very challenging for me mentally and physically. I continued to show up, set goals and push myself. Eventually, I evolved into a stronger person. Physically I was stronger and my body had changed; however, the most significant change was how strong I was mentally.  It was at that juncture that I realized that working out, cycling, lifting weights, etcetera, truly begins from the inside out.  Cyclists who attended the same cycling classes week, after week as I did had encouraged and told me that I should become an instructor.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road for me. I believe my journey began years before becoming an instructor. If you are going to lead and guide 34 people on a bike I believe you must make certain that you are the very best version of yourself. Some of my struggles have been meeting people where they are at in their fitness journey and keeping them encouraged even when they don’t feel or see the results they desire. I try to emphasize that strength shows up internally initially and eventually the body will follow.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Cycle with Fancy – what should we know?
I am currently a cycling instructor at Fitness Connection. I am known for pushing riders mentally and physically while cycling. We dance, sweat and jam it out all while getting a great workout in.  I pride myself on the success and feedback from riders, the fact that they push beyond their limit because I encourage and tell them that they have the ability to. What sets me apart in the cycling industry is that I know this is my purpose and calling. I place encouraging notes on each rider’s bike so that it will set the tone for class. One of the many things that I admire and love about cycling is that cycling is for everyone. Cycling has absolutely nothing to do with who you are or what you do for a living. Cycling places every rider on a leveled playing field. As I have new and experienced riders, I always emphasize during class that you simply meet yourself wherever you are and ride.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My friends and family encouraged me at the onset of becoming an instructor and continue to do so by taking my spin class. They encourage me to continue on the path I am on and tell me that I’m an inspiration. They also send me song suggestions. They are my biggest cheerleaders.
