Meet Cynthia Waters of Cyn Customs in Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Waters.

Cynthia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, I graduated from Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center School of Health Professions, where I served as president of my senior class. After graduating high school I attended the Prestigious Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, where I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. I later attended Argosy University where I received my Masters in Counseling Degree. I later attended Dallas Baptist University where I received my certification in school counseling.

I returned home, Dallas from Atlanta in 2008 and began my education career as a teacher. I taught for six years and then, became a high school counselor. I served as lead counselor at L. G. Pinkston High School for five years until I decided to chase my dream of becoming and independent artist and designer.

I am fortunate enough to have a very supportive husband, Dr. Dionel Waters; who too is an educator. We have two beautiful children, Amoi and Dionel, Jr. My husband encouraged me to chase my dream of entrepreneurship, and here I am today. I have a successful company where I specialize in ALL THINGS CUSTOM.

I have always been fascinated with the arts and creativity. So, in 2018, I decided to take that initial JUMP and I have not looked back! I have very supportive friends and family who always encourage me to be better and do better and I am forever grateful for that.

My mother, Beverly Hawkins, was also a major driving force in me in pursuing my dreams. I believe I am as talented as I am today because of her. I grew up imitating her and crafting my skills after her. She may or may not know it, but, she is the main reason I am who I am today! I love you, mom!

So, here I am today, working my business and changing lives through my God-given craft. I love every bit of it and I would not change it for the world!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been hard but it definitely has not been easy. I had to make a tough decision of leaving my very stable job as a lead high school counselor and making the decision to chase my dream was difficult; but the support I received from my husband, my mom, and my colleagues was very encouraging! They said, GO FOR IT! I then prayed and asked God for guidance and took that leap into entrepreneurship.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cyn Customs story. Tell us more about the business.
Cyn Customs is a company where I specialize in ALL THINGS CUSTOM! We are a full Interior Design Company with an emphasis on custom art. I love to walk into a space and think of all the possibilities. I am different from many design firms in the fact that I create custom art pieces that are one of a kind for specific spaces. I am the proudest of my uniqueness. I love creating spaces and art that no one else has. Most of my spaces are customized with my art or likeness. I love to see a space transform, the instant gratification that I receive is mind-blowing.

I get joy from seeing the faces of my clients when they are introduced to their new spaces.

I think it is so awesome for my clients to have unique and one of a kind pieces and spaces.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe in blessings and I have been totally blessed beyond anything I can imagine!
