Today we’d like to introduce you to Dacia Coffey.
Dacia, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I spent the first half of my career in sales. Joining a marketing agency well into my career was an unusual move since most marketers went straight into marketing or advertising directly from college, but this also gave me a unique perspective.
First, I looked at marketing from a “front-line” perspective, always asking myself if these marketing tools would help someone sell more. Secondly, my whole career had been in business-to-business environments, which involve complicated buying process, complex messaging, and long sales cycles. Not only does B2B require a unique approach to marketing, but I realized it was an underserved market. There simply weren’t make agencies focusing on their unique challenges.
So in 2013, I opened my own agency to cater to B2B companies. We’re particularly strong in messaging, differentiation, and strategy. I absolutely love this work because my clients are the unsung heroes of our way-of-life. They help us get clean drinking water, manufacture the “invisible” products that create comfortable environments, and develop the technology that is powering our businesses and economic growth. We’re helping them tell their stories. I believe in the honoring of work and I love helping great companies serve other great companies creating a domino effect of positivity and prosperity for all.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning your own business is never a smooth road, but every challenge becomes a teacher if you allow it. In seven years, I’ve experienced lean financial times where we had to scale back, and I’ve struggled with building the right team and the right processes. But I believe this helps me to relate to my clients and what it has taken for them to build their businesses.
Great marketing sits in an emotional place because it distills down the truth of your company telling your story and symbolizing what you stand for. It sells for you when you’re not in the room. Truly great marketing doesn’t just grow your sales, but it builds your legacy and extends your core values into the very first introductions strangers have with your brand. Sometimes, going through a rebranding and strategy process can be a challenge for executive teams, but we’re committed to supporting them through the discomfort to transform their organizations for today’s fast-changing business environment.
Please tell us about The Marketing Blender.
The Marketing Blender helps B2B companies–such as manufacturers, software companies, and professional service firms–align their sales and marketing efforts to accelerate growth. Today’s buyers don’t want to engage with salespeople until they are in the final phases of their choice in vendor; by that point, your marketing either won or lost you the deal and they are just comparing bids or proposals. But many sales organizations haven’t changed their approach to better serve the new decision-makers. This is often killing their growth and opening the door for competitors and price wars.
To make it worse, B2B marketing is often dry and overly professional, but decision making happens in the limbic system of the brain, which controls emotion. That means our clients gain a fast competitive advantage by prioritizing their marketing efforts and allowing us to do gorgeous work for them.
We’re a full-service marketing agency, so we help our clients with strategy, branding, websites, advertising, digital marketing, trade shows, and sales alignment. We also offer fractional CMO services. Our specialization in B2B companies really sets us apart, because we know how to craft incredible messaging strategies that grow revenue… and it means we speak the language of business. We’re not scared to talk ROI and marketing’s impact on the business. The marketing we deliver is beautiful, but what we’re known for is growing companies.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My calling is to help people use their work to bless the world. This translates into a passion for helping both my clients succeed and helping my team succeed. I envision a business world full of meaning, connection, and prosperity for all and this drives me to give me all every day.
I believe my faith in God has helped me to grow the agency by providing me with a framework of stewardship as well as lessons and principles that allow us to serve people to the best of our ability.
