Today we’d like to introduce you to Daisey and Terrence Shields.

Daisey and Terrence, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband and I always had a love for cooking, rather it was cooking for friends or catering for an event, let’s just say we’ve been cooking all our lives. We moved to Fort Worth, Texas four years ago from Georgia and like always we search for seafood. We never could find that taste we were looking for so we were forced to create our very own seasoning and cook our own seafood. One day, we decided to step out on faith and take orders at my place of employment at that time and low and behold, I came home with 30 orders and this continued for several weeks. We realize we had ourselves something and that’s when the birth of Da Crab Trap truly became our reality. We can truly say that our faith in God, hard work, dedication, and continual grinding has gotten us where we are today.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Transitioning from the work field as well as obtaining capital was two of the things we struggled with when crossing over to becoming business owners. You have to have money for inventory in order to meet the demands of the people. When transitioning from being an employee to becoming an employer can be hard because now everything falls on you.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Da Crab Trap, LLC – what should we know?
Da Crab Trap is a seafood restaurant, that brings a taste of Coastal Georgia, creating a taste that’s not familiar here in the DFW area. We make this amazing Original Trap Seasoning that our customers love. Our seasoning can be used on beef, pork, chicken, fruit, vegetables and of course seafood. We specialize in crab and shrimp boils but it’s the taste that the customers crave for. As owners of Da Crab Trap, we are proud and it brings us joy to serve the community of Fort Worth as well as the surrounding cities. We can truly say that our taste and our love for what we do sets us apart from everyone else.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
To be honest, God is the only one who deserves the credit. He moved this family of three to Texas with no extended family or friends to lean on and we had to rely on our faith and the strength of three. Yes, we had a few family members and friends that helped but all glory belongs to God.
