Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story of how my business, A Nurses Touch Skin Care Spa, started when I was working as a Registered Nurse. I have been an RN for over 14 years. I loved the fast pace and coming into a unique work scenario every day. Among many different areas in Nursing, I worked in the oncology unit as a chemo-certified nurse. This experience had the biggest impact on me overall. Watching people fight for their lives is one of the most humbling things you can ever do. You learn to appreciate what is really important in life. One of my favorite patients lost all of her hair due to chemotherapy treatments. I noticed that she still looked amazing! I asked her how early she got up to do her makeup in the morning. She told me she had permanent makeup done prior to starting chemo. I thought this was an incredible treatment for patients going through chemotherapy who had lost all of their hair. Permanent makeup was able to make her look and feel better while battling cancer! I was inspired to look for the best education to become certified in permanent makeup to help my chemo patients and other women trying to make their lives easier. I also wanted to offer areola tattooing for breast cancer patients. Areola tattooing is incredible and gives a realistic look of areolas on the reconstructed breasts of women who have undergone mastectomies. I completed several training programs and opened my first Nurses Touch Spa in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After opening the Spa, I continued to work in the hospital in oncology, the ICU, and the ER for the next 2 years. Fast forward, and my family moved to Fort Worth, where I reopened my business from the ground up. I not only do permanent makeup for brows lips, and eyeliner I also added areola tattooing, scalp tattooing, fibroblast, Procell treatments, Electrolysis permanent hair removal, and esthetics. I love Fort Worth, and I will never leave! My business, A Nurses Touch Skin Care Spa, has flourished here. I went from running the Spa myself to adding 3 more incredible women to the team. We have been blessed with wonderful customers who have given us over 450 five-star reviews on Google. We have also won several awards, including Best in Fort Worth for Fort Worth Magazine. It is still amazing to be running my own business. It all starts from an idea, an idea that you refuse to let pass by and you make it into a successful reality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This question makes me laugh because I am sure all business owners can relate to having a laundry list of struggles and hurdles, they have had to overcome. Running a business is a constant learning experience. Not only do you have to keep adapting to technology and social media, but you have to keep updating all of your processes. I was completely self-taught. It is not just mastering my skills for the services we offer, but it is so much more. I made my own website from the ground up. I had to learn to do my own marketing, which proved to be the most challenging. I think the hard part for me was not having another permanent makeup business to model after. I have never met another Nurse who does what I do. There is not a Spa in the country that offers the exact same combination of services that we do. As I added employees, I had to build different approaches and adapt to each of their learning styles. I had to learn how to rank my business on the front page of Google. I still remember the beginning when I actually Googled: “How to list your business on Google”. I would love to go back in time and be able to tell my old self all the tricks, steps, and best ways to do everything I do now. I always tell people that my business is my baby. It takes constant love and effort, and it is always growing and changing.

A Nurses Touch Skin Care Spa has been a growing, thriving business I am blessed to own. I used my experience in Nursing to create my procedures to give my clients the best results. We offer many services at our spa. In fact, we are the only business of its kind in the country that offers the variety of services that we do. I am the only Nurse that does permanent makeup that I know. Being a medical professional has given me a huge competitive advantage in this industry. I have found people do not want to trust a facial procedure to just anyone. I strive to always put my clients first because I understand that this can be a stressful and emotional process. For Permanent makeup, we offer permanent Lip blushing which is gorgeous, and it can be done in any color. We offer Permanent Eyeliner and Permanent Brows. Microblading brows is actually an old technique, and it doesn’t last long. Powder brows can last up to 3 times longer and are good for all skin types. I am able to use medical-grade numbing cream, a sterile environment, the best ink, and thorough aftercare procedures. At A Nurses Touch we also offer electrolysis permanent hair removal which I am very passionate about. Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal that is legally permanent. It is safe for all skin types, colors, and locations. Laser hair removal is not legally permanent, according to the FDA. Electrolysis has helped change people’s lives by getting rid of unwanted hair, especially facial hair. We have two permanent makeup artists (including myself) and three estheticians. Our estheticians offer facials, peels, microneedling, and custom facials we build to meet our client’s wants and needs. We have hydra facials procell treatments and the newest is Fibroblast treatments. Fibroblast is absolutely amazing for skin tightening and treating scars. It is like microneedling times ten in its results. Fibroblast is a treatment that is done and can give simulate results to a facelift or eyelid lift. At A Nurses Touch Skin Care Spa, we continue to grow and add new services. I will always look to add anything that can give my customers the best results for their skin.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I feel that the skin treatment service industry is always going to keep changing, progressing, and evolving. New technology can offer men and women different ways to fight the signs of aging. Investing in your appearance is priceless. Ninety percent of your selfie is your skin; skin is also a reflection of your health. I value what can give people the best results without having to resort to invasive plastic surgery. Think about how much people utilize Photoshop for their images. People are always going to look for a way to improve their appearance. I personally will always add any service that gives the best results. My potential clients can look at my website and my competitor’s websites in a few minutes. Having a huge gallery and lots of online information is critically important. I am sure that I have the biggest website gallery in DFW. When looking for a place to have their procedures done, people want images and all the information. There is a massive demand for businesses to have an up-to-date website and social media. If I give you 200 images of my work. I also showed you 200 people that have had this done, and you have not. Generic websites with a few pictures will not work to be successful and to reach people. Regardless of what your business is, it is important to give people the most information, galleries and updated social media.
