Meet Danger Dan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danger Dan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Danger. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
A few years ago, I picked up an old Harley Davidson so I could build my own vintage chopper. While looking for old parts and finding people that could help my vision become a reality, I starting meeting some really interesting folks that were into old iron and rolling works of art just like I was trying to create. I met old greybeards that had forgotten more than most choppular kids will ever learn, and people with wild stories of traveling and breaking down and fixing whatever might be slowing them down just to get a little further down the road. It all fascinated me and I wanted to share these experiences.

So I did, by starting a podcast. I started recording these wild conversations I was having with people I hardly knew but were into similar things as me. As soon as I could start traveling, I started documenting my own journeys by recording audio notes while living through some crazy experiences that seemed to parallel some of the stories I’d already heard before. After a year of putting out shows and gaining quite an audience and decided to start another project, MCshopTs.com, this time I wanted to share some of the shops I’ve found on the road through my travels with my listeners by starting a subscription-based T-shirt company where I feature a new shop from somewhere across the country each month.

So for every shop, I feature I curate a new piece of art for a t-shirt and a postcard that tells my subscribers where the shop is, what they specialize in, and all their contact info. My first shop was Brown’s Cycle right here in Dallas, TX. They’ve been in business since 1970 and are a great example of the shops I like to feature. I’ve also started working with a Motorcycle Expedition company that leads expeditions in Nepal, India, Mongolia, and other high altitude riding areas named Motorcycle Sherpa. I recently went to Nepal with them and an amazing group of people in the motorcycle business and documented my travels with a five part series on my podcast called My Motorcycle Sherpa Trip to Nepal 1-5.

I also took time on the trip to talk with both of the owners of this badass company, Bear Haughton and Buddhi Singh; their interviews are up as well. Just last year took me coast to coast, down into Mexico, and around the world to China and Nepal. I have some wild plans for 2020 but you’ll have to listen to the podcast to find out more. DangerDansTalkShop.com or wherever you listen to a podcast.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No road is that smooth when you ride a 1957 straight leg rigid frame, Harley Davidson.

Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
My business is riding bikes and talking to people. I specialize in finding motorcycle shops and sharing them with my worldwide audience. One thing I’m most proud of is that I survived last year. Trying to do it again sets me apart from others.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a good bullshitter. It’s really helped in this line of work. I talk to people that specialize in all sorts of stuff. It helps being able to bullshit through some things.
