Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Motta.
Daniel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It’s funny because I never thought that I would wind up a photographer, especially as a career. Originally, I wanted to play music, so I majored in music in college while working full-time at an automotive shop. I ended up losing my job as they were letting people go, so needless to say I knew a friend that is a wedding photographer.
I called him in desperation as I needed to make money since I just lost my job. I shot one wedding with him to make some extra money way before and to be honest, I had no idea what I was doing. A camera was basically thrown into my hands, and I guess I somehow I managed.
After a few months of him taking me under his wing and teaching me new techniques, I realized quickly that this was starting to turn into a passion. I became hooked! It makes total sense too because of my love for music, it was so easy for me to translate, my ear was developed now to develop my eye.
Fast forward roughly eight years later, and I’m working full time doing what I absolutely love, which is making people feel and look great! When I look back, I think to myself that I was exactly in the right spot where I was supposed to be. If I wouldn’t have lost my job while going to college, I can only imagine where I would be. I feel very blessed to be able to do what I do, I’m truly lucky and feel that I’ve found my calling in life.
Has it been a smooth road?
Just like anything, I think we all hit certain obstacles along the way. Working at the automotive shop taught me all about business, sales, etc. so I feel like that always made sense to me. In any industry, it’s hard to sell a product that you either don’t know much about or don’t believe in.
I would say at the beginning of my career it was hard to believe in myself fully because I was so new and didn’t really know what I was doing 100%. I struggled a lot in terms of creativity, posing, lighting, confidence, just about everything. So I had to learn, luckily I had friends that are also in the industry to help me, as well as having access to youtube videos and photography education sites was basically my college.
Adding to that, being new its not like you have this huge clientele base, so I had to figure out how to make the phone ring.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Daniel Motta Photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is Daniel Motta Photography, and I am a local Dallas based photographer that can shoot just about anything! I service all of the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex!
I specialize in shooting weddings, having shot over 100 weddings it has become second nature to me. I love shooting weddings because it constantly keeps me on my toes. I actually enjoy the pressure, I feel more alive! Wedding photography was a gateway for me to learn new things like headshots, environmental portraiture, family photos, maternity photography, and event photography.
I’m known for my crisp, vibrant look to my images, you can also say that they look “true to color” but more enhanced.
I feel the one thing that has really helped my business and what sets me apart is my personality, I hear time and time again from clients saying that I’m fun to work with and that an hour-long shoot felt like five minutes. I’m certainly not the mean type, I love to have fun and be goofy while I’m shooting, it helps people feel at ease.
I think if you’re excited and love what you do, people truly see that and it’s contagious. I don’t think I would be where I am today if I was dull and boring and wasn’t 100% engaged in my subject.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love my city! I love that there is a lot to offer, lots of diverse people, there are so many locations you can shoot at, I like finding new gems around the city that I’ve never seen before, and adding them to my location list!
Traffic is the only thing that will get the best of me, but at the same time, lots of traffic lets me know that more and more people are moving to the city giving me more potential, so I can’t complain.
We do need to pay more attention to the traffic situation and come up with alternative ideas; otherwise, It could cause problems in the future.
