Meet Daniel Tovar of Ben Lauer Real Estate Group in Uptown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Tovar.

Daniel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Right after my 29th birthday, I realized that climbing up the corporate ladder was not the path I wanted to take. If I wanted to make a change, I had to do it NOW!

My story starts in October of 88′. I was born in Sulfur Springs Texas, but I don’t remember much as we moved to “The Big D” in summer of 89′. That’s where we lived in multiple run-down apartments up and down McKinney Avenue. We lived in several one bedroom, one bath apartments with 6-8 family members. In 95′, I wasn’t really sure at that moment why, but we were packing our bags and moving to Garland Texas. We got in our car, I saw my mother in the driver seat, sister in the passenger, and I was in my usual back seat, but my father was not present. You see, my mother was faced with a BIG decision. She could continue to live the life we were living or leave my father to raise her babies in a place we can all call home. So, she decided and purchased us a $60k home on Sunnybrook lane.

Growing up here with a single mother, my sister, and my friends I really learned how to hustle to make a smart dollar. As kids, we would wash cars, cut yards, and other neighborhood chores to afford the things we wanted. As we got older, we were able to get real jobs. At 14 years old I was working in construction on the weekends, at 16, I was working at Subway, at 18, I working Banquets at Hotel Inter-continental while at the same time working as a Trainer at Panera Bread. In the winter of 2010 while in college, I started dating my best friend and future bride, Cynthia Barcenas. She is the sweetest, most loving woman you’d ever meet. She supports me, encourages me, and most importantly believes in us. We met senior year in high school and went to Richland College together for two years before I realized that college was not the path for me, and I dropped out.

At this time I earned an opportunity to grow so I took my talents to Sprouts Farmers Market. Sprouts is where I was able to discover and showcase my talent and passion for helping others and building relationships. I began to climb up the corporate ladder to become a manager and started to travel with the company to train and open new stores around the country. Six years after starting my journey at Sprouts, I was offered a better paying position as a manager for a challenging department at Whole Foods Market. I was only there for two years before another opportunity presented itself to become a restaurant manager at an airport for an entrepreneur company. They were paying over $40k a year, all benefits paid, and they had great core values as a company. It didn’t take long before I realized I could only continue to wake up at 3 am six days a week, commute one way for 45 minutes, and deal with what goes on at the airports for so long.

It wasn’t until I was on a trip with my wife and her family in Florida where my mother-in-law sparked up a conversation about my career plans that lead to me wanting to become a Real Estate Agent. As soon as we arrived back home to Mesquite Tx, my wife and I registered me for my real estate courses. At this time I had worked at the restaurant for one year and a half and decided it was time for me to move on. Now that I was unemployed, my wife and I did what any other couple would do, we both took off six months, traveled to Dubai, Egypt, and even attended a wedding in India and personally officiated another one there on the beach. We let our careers take a back seat and enjoyed life with each other while still finding some time to take my Real Estate courses. Each day I studied, my wife was either right next to me quizzing me or going over the curriculum during her downtime when she returned to work so I would be ready to pass my test. She is a huge part of why I am where I am today not only my business but in my life.

My first year of being licensed as a Realtor started off slow, but I was focused on obtaining as much information as possible. As I started to work closer with my productivity coach Darren, I began to grasp what he was teaching me and I ended my first year as a Realtor with over 25 closed units. Now, as I start my 3rd year in real estate, I have closed over 50 units and I am now a part of the award-winning team, The Ben Lauer Real Estate Group.

I am blessed to have the opportunity and freedom to help give back as a Community Organizer, VP of  Cannaday Elementary PTA, Willow Glen Crime Watch Captain and other charitable events we may host throughout the year.

Has it been a smooth road?
As any true entrepreneur knows, the journey is never easy. There is no right way to build a business overnight. The best way is to make mistakes, learn from them, be patient, and have a true passion for what you do. If you have the right mindset you will never take a loss, you will only learn lessons. I was very fortunate to have a wonderful wife to support, motivate and encourage me. I also had my coach Darren who saw in me what no one else saw, and my great business partner Ben Lauer to help me along the way.

When I started in real estate I was honestly in it for the money, and I quickly learned that I had a true passion for helping others obtain the home goals. Whether you’re buying, selling, or investing in real estate, I can truly say I am excited to help you reach your Real Estate Goals.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
As a part of the award-winning Ben Lauer Real Estate Group, I help my clients buy, sell, and invest in properties in and around the DFW Area. Whether the transaction is in English or Spanish, the goal is the same.

We specialize in selling homes that other agents couldn’t and it’s important to us that we educate our clients so that they have all the needed information to make the best decision for their family.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas has a great real estate market. As big companies continue to move to the DFW area Dallas will continue to grow and housing will be in high demand. If you are looking to be in the DFW Real Estate Market, I would highly recommend it. I work closely with people who have any questions or who are interested in Real Estate. The way our industry is headed, being a real estate agent is not about buying or selling a home. It’s about building relationships, selling dreams and lifestyles. Your client must feel a connection and trust you, as they will be making one of the biggest transaction they may ever make in their lifetime.
