Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Wheat.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Daniel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born In Dallas, TX and I grew up in Grand Prairie, TX which is about 25 min west of Downtown. I’m a product of an immigrant farmer who came to this country to provide for his family and a Native American bloodline whose history is nearly forgotten and only left to history books. I was raised by a single mother who struggled and sacrificed for my better being and is my Hero and I would put her against any marvel comic movie screen action figure! I get my strong insight from her, the ability to also read people’s intentions without even speaking a word to them. It protects me even to this day.
Through a Valentine’s Day gift from my fiancé Jennifer Rodriguez. I began online courses for digital photography. Upon noticing my passion for taking photos, Jennifer decided to help me grow my knowledge of cameras and digital photography. One year later we launched D.Wheat Photography. My fiancé is my support system. She keeps me humble and praises the accomplishments that we achieve together. I would not be able to run my business without her!
“Find a niche and stick to it!” Advice I was given when I first began taking photos. Maybe it was because of my rebel nature or perhaps I felt challenged to grasp everything the photography world had to offer. I did not stick to one genre, instead I became involved in just about all of them! Fashion, events, family, editorial, beauty, head shots, boudoir, senior portraits, and maternity. Overwhelming to some but If you can produce and guarantee quality then why not?! Quality and consistency will keep the wheels turning I can assure you!
Published 40+ times and I still remain humble to this day. I’m at a point where it’s essential to give back to the community and to my fellow up and coming photographers. Charity and promotional events are still on this and next year’s planner even with my current bookings. I create happiness with my photos and to me that’s one of the greatest gifts God has blessed me with!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of my biggest challenges have been on the marketing side of my services. Because of my versatility it was difficult to decide where to put my energy and resources into. Each genre that I serve requires a certain level of preparation and when I first started I was simply not prepared. I’ve been knocked down a few times in my life and I wasn’t going to be defeated early on. Client traffic is now manageable by creating a platform for each one of my services with its own network. Now I can expand my reach by leaps and bounds because I’ve created a multi-network hub for my services.

My favorite memory from childhood would be one of the many times I would walk into my grandmother’s house only to smell Homemade Tortillas de Harina! My grandfather knew one of the grandchildren was en route because my grandmother would fire up the Comal (Iron surface for making tortillas on the stovetop). I really didn’t care what else was on the menu because they would complement any meal!
