Meet Daniela Pasqualini of Art by Dany in Coppell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Pasqualini.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Daniela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am Daniela, an Italian artist living and painting in Dallas, TX.

I was born in Rome, Italy and I lived my youth in Petritoli, a little town on the Adriatic coast. After completing my degree in Business administration, work and life circumstances brought me to the Tuscany region of Italy, specifically Florence and this represented an important turning point in my creative spirit and outlook on life.

The constant connection with the historical and cultural context of the city of Florence and the many opportunities provided by the sites have been an artistic stimulus in my passion for painting. In 2013, I was offered a unique challenge to leave the only country I ever knew and loved to move with my family to Boston, MA USA. In New England, the many colors, different types of landscapes, and many different cultures have provided me a surreal environment as a backdrop to really launch my true passion. And everything started with a Christmas gift from my husband… an ART set! I then joined art associations, met amazing open-minded artists and I have been in galleries both in Europe and the USA. They say that if you do what you truly love, then you will never have to work another day of your life. That describes my situation.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not. First and foremost, finding the time to dedicate to my career while being a full-time mom of three daughters is probably the single biggest struggle. Searching for and achieving the right balances is almost impossible.

In regards to the struggles of creating an art business, the road can be for sure and at every turn tested my faith as a female artist in not only myself but also in what I was trying to accomplish. Some artist has been born into the business. I had to learn the business and everything behind from zero. My main struggle from a business point of view, being a one-person operation, was to find a balance between the business side and the ability to just create. The ability to keep me motivated and the self-discipline to force it is not something that is easy. It definitely took hard work besides just painting because there is so much to be done behind the scenes. (buying supplies, paying bills, find new customers, doing bookkeeping, running errands, marketing, etc.) From a creative point of view, it was combining my personal passion to explore creativity within the commerce of the marketplace because they are not always compatible. And it is very easy to fall into the trap of painting for the market, rather than out of pure inspiration. In my artistic career and in a period of gender inequality, I learned to never sell yourself short, be perseverant and authentic with your practice because as a woman nothing is going to be handed to you. I think that with everything to be taken seriously, you need too be serious and fight for what you believe.

We’d love to hear more about your artwork.
I create modern abstract paintings with rich colors and texture and I work with acrylic, mixed media and oil on canvas transforming observations of nature into abstract patterns. I react against conventional landscape paintings breaking down the elements of fauna, flora and finding objects into colors and lines. This approach allows me to convey not only visual but tactual sensations and rhythms similar to ones created by nature. I have participated in multiple juried exhibitions in MA, NH, NY, TX and have taken home honors from these exhibitions. In addition, I was in multiple exhibitions in Rome, Milan, London, Florence and the Vatican itself for the Jubilee 2016. I am known for my bold TEXTURE and my Neo-Impressionism style, the movement Seurat and Signac began with the Pointillism technique. Italian art critics, Jessica Sottile, refer to my artwork as Modern Pointillism because I decompose the image in thin and linear brushstrokes of different colors, overlapping those with similar shaded. I represent dismantled elements, giving to the viewer the task of mixing them in his mind to recompose a fluid image of nature. When my artwork is viewed up close, the layers of colors have no apparent purpose or reason but the more distance you get from the canvas, you really begin to see the shape, message, and idea I try to portray unfold. For me, it is simply a technique that has come natural and one I am constantly developing with each painting to give the view of my artwork a unique and emotional experience.

The qualities I consider most characteristic of the work that sets me apart from others is the spirit of experimentation with fresh ideas about techniques and nature of materials with full attention to the functions of art embracing the political and social changing. Experimenting with new and different techniques allow an openness that gives me the ability to express my feelings and emotions to send a powerful message to the audience. Something I fully believe is that art can be a medium for communicating what may not be able to be expressed in words. As the old adage says: a picture is worth 1000 words.

What were you like growing up?
From an early age, I had a passion and love for the creative arts. When I was young, I always would draw and sketch and color everywhere. Any opportunity to be creative in expressing myself was an opportunity that I took. And I always had the confidence to express myself and my parents encouraged that a lot. Since I was young, a phrase of an artist stuck in my head “Observe the world around you closely, hungrily” and this is what I did being very fortunate to grow up in a nature-filled atmosphere. And this is why most of my series of paintings grew from my observations of nature.
