Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Deihl.
Danielle, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
This journey started several years ago during a study abroad semester in Mallorca, Spain. I had a class on Mediterranean cuisine, and my professor had us create Instagram accounts and post daily. I continued my account after returning to the US, with the redirection to global cuisine. I launched my YouTube account as something to focus on during the COVID pandemic. I was making videos cooking from home, and my hope was to provide recipes that would help people feel like they were traveling the world from their kitchen. Most recently, I created a TikTok channel to showcase restaurants here in DFW and hopefully in the near future around the country and world. There are so many amazing places with fascinating stories, and I’m grateful for being able to share even a small piece of that. Social media is such a powerful tool, and I love how it allows creative expression and for people to share their part of the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Anything that someone is passionate enough to pursue is certain to have bumps along the road. I would say one of the difficulties I’ve found is how to best reach audiences and create engagement across multiple platforms. The algorithm varies for different social media sites, and every creator’s focus is how to reach the most people with their content. Although there are certainly times that I wish my content had more views or followers, I remind myself that I do this because it brings me joy and that happiness doesn’t have to be determined by a number.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create food content that I share across several social media platforms. I don’t focus on any specific cuisine or geographic area and instead prefer to label the account as global cuisine. This allows me the freedom to share food of any type and place. I especially enjoy using my platform to feature local restaurants and businesses. My focus is for my content to be authentic, to allow people to experience new places and foods, and to promote acceptance through it all. I’m most proud of a TikTok video I made that has recently passed 20k views. I create all of my content from start to finish myself, and it’s exciting to know that something you created has reached so many people.
