Meet Danny Ramirez of Muy Cute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Ramirez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Danny. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Muy Cute started out as an idea of bringing things together that I personally love in regards to Latinx pop culture, the LGBTQIA+ community, food, humor, and inclusivity.

I am a graphic designer by trade and have always wanted to create a line of graphic t-shirts that would encompass my own skillset when it comes to illustration and typography. Thus Muy Cute was born as a platform for all things that are (muy cute) and mainly relatable to other Latinx folks in my community. My favorite part of creating this brand has been being able to take it on the road to various Mercados (markets) and seeing first hand how people react to my products. From Washington, California, and Oregon (still need to put Texas on the map) I have gotten an outpour of love and support from many people of all walks of life. Growing up in a Latino male culture, you are almost asked to keep things very masculine and emotionless by society. I wanted to break that cycle and show that I love things that are pink, evoke emotion, and cross the lines when it comes to gender roles. It has been a rewarding journey so far I am beyond happy with what I have been able to create. I am excited to keep moving forward with my brand by pushing boundaries and staying true to myself. Stay tuned!

Has it been a smooth road?
I have definitely come across some bumps along the road for sure. Learning about how to run a business is a can of worms in itself. From getting a license to trial and error when it comes to outsourcing items to print on. You have to be a sponge and make sure to take in all kinds of information, especially since running a business is not something I have ever known how to do. There are no stupid questions; its always important to ask if you are unsure about how something works. Never feel ashamed to ask for help either, I have always wanted to have the right answers to everything, and that isn’t always realistic. My main piece of advice when it comes to bumps in the road is that there are always people willing to help, never be afraid to reach out and be vulnerable.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Muy cute mainly specializes in creating graphic t-shirts. I have an online store at www.muycute.threadless.com where I currently have created about 7-8 designs that can be purchased on various t-shirt styles, hoodies or sweaters. I have started to create other pieces that feature custom graphics or the same designs from my t-shirts on things like stickers, postcards, tote bags, makeup bags, and buttons. The pieces outside of t-shirts are currently only available at pop-up shops or crafter mercados at the moment. When creating this line, I wanted to make sure every piece was unique and special in the way it is designed. What sets me apart from others is everything I come up has my own personality and style implemented on it. All my pieces are inspired by my own viewpoints, memories, and powerful mujeres (women). Moving forward, my love for art and creativity will forever keep me engaged in this community.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like Dallas is a great city for growth and exploration, especially when it comes to any business with the want for drive and perseverance. The best advice I can give is always being true to yourself and what your business is about. Your products can bring people in the door, but it’s your personality and story that keeps them coming back. Folks are always excited to collaborate and get to know other people within the same business community, so being able to reach out and make those connections is also an important thing to keep in mind.
