Today we’d like to introduce you to Danyel Buie.
Danyel, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had a love for writing as far back as I can remember. I started blogging back in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri a little over six years ago. It began as a complement to my wedding and event planning business. I loved writing about wedding etiquette, styles, trends and eventually, my content base and passion for lifestyle curation grew from there.
I moved to Dallas in April 2013 and began immersing myself in the local influencer scene quickly. There’s so much to do here! The foodie scene immediately caught my attention because I’m a lover of all things food. My entire family loves to cook and I have my parents to thank (or blame lol) for my fine dining tastes. I love discovering new places, chefs, techniques and great food and the Dallas restaurant is where it’s at.
My adventures have led to me becoming a contributor for The Dallas Food Nerd and I founded the North Texas Black Bloggers Association to gather local fellow influencers like myself for collaborative purposes and resource sharing and support.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. It can be hard to stay motivated at a high level at all times. What I’m finding is that it’s okay to have downtime and not have anything going on.
When I began blogging, I said yes to just about anything that came my way. It’s typically what we do as influencers to find which opportunities are available to us. It can get very overwhelming. As time goes on and my lifestyle experiences become more meaningful (which has a direct impact on my content), I find myself leaning more towards opportunities that are more in line with my brand and will have the most impact. It’s nice to be sought after by brands and companies, but there’s a LOT of hard work to do behind the scenes at all times so drive, hustle and discipline are key!
I moved to Dallas with no family and had to start from scratch to build solid relationships. The influencer community here is very welcoming and I have made friends that are truly like family to me.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I run my Foodie and Lifestyle Blog under my namesake. I write about my lifestyle experiences which include topics such as food, entertainment, living, events, my thoughts, etc.
I love the Dallas foodie scene and it’s my passion to discover new faces and places and the best places to eat around town. I love telling my readers about my latest finds through my restaurant reviews, and I show off my cooking skills now and then as well. My friends and family know that they count on me to recommend the best of the best, no matter what they’re craving!
I’m truly proud that I have the opportunity to do something that I love. I enjoy being creative and cultivating a creative community through my group, the North Texas Black Bloggers Association.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up in my family was so much fun! I was involved in spelling bees and pageants, anything and everything girly you could think of. I loved to read and I still do, I was quite the curious kid. I loved to sing and dance and listen to music, that has stayed with me during my adulthood as well. I liked to study and did very well in school and always loved making new friends. I loved being social and meeting new people and met people from all walks of life growing up.
