Meet Danyel Thomas of Fly Eye Wear and More in DeSoto

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danyel Thomas.

Danyel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been doing hair for about 30 years, started in high school doing some friends hair leading to going to Beauty School. After graduating from Renee’s cosmetology in the 1990s, I worked at a few salons in the Dallas area.

In 2002, I made a leap of faith when I launched my D&I Unique Hair Design with my business partner and confidante, Ingrid Wilburn. That decision was a game changer and we’ve been in business for 18 years.

After several years of successfully running D&I, Ingrid and I both started looking for new ways to grow ourselves and our business. Ingrid ventured into a new business as an event planner Unique Visions Upscale Events and I moved into the world of fashion and accessories.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth one but it’s been definitely a blessed one not to have many struggles and to be able to be in business this long. Failure is not an option is something i remind myself of.

Please tell us about Fly Eye Wear and More.
Fashion was such a natural progression for me because I’ve ALWAYS been a stylist at heart. In fact, Fly Eyewear was birthed partly because of friends and clients questioning where I would get my glasses. I loved buying expensive shades but I had the problem of misplacing them or loaning them to a friend to never see them again. Now I’m able to provide my customers with trending shades that look expensive at a price that is affordable.

Clients feel great after getting their hair styled and sunglasses are the perfect touch to complete the look . With Fly Eyewear, clients are able to experience a one-stop-shop, a salon with an eyewear boutique.

I’m a hairstylist/stylist. I’m just grateful to have been in business so long compared to others. We have seen people come and go in the business… I’m blessed to be consistent. I’ve learned over the years if you find something you love to do it will be easy to do.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel what is essential to my success in the fashion/stylist industry is to be able to make my clients comfortable to boost their self-esteem. I have away of creating that person they want to be. Along with being committed to my business. Through commitment, you can gain motivation to pursue success.
