Today we’d like to introduce you to Darien Campbell.
Darien, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The idea of my business came about in Summer 2019 by making candle wedding favors. I enjoyed the craft so much that I decided to start my own candle company, initially providing scented soy candles and wax melts. I attended a couple of craft fairs and was having so much success that I ended up expanding my product selection and now I offer bath and body products such as handcrafted soap, body oils, room sprays bath, soaks, etc. My skin is so sensitive and can’t tolerate a lot of normal and fragranced products so I wanted to provide natural products that work well on all skin types, especially sensitive skin.
Eventually, my business expanded to a sister business earlier this year that I created called Chic Craftz, where I offer a variety of handcrafted goods and DIY Candle Making Kits. My candle kits have been a huge success during the pandemic since people can’t go out and do much so they have become a great bonding DIY project for friends and families. I have three different kits – A basic Candle Kit, Wax Melt Kit and a Dual Kit that makes both candles and wax melts. I hope to be able to provide this product long term as the reviews have been great so far.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an entrepreneur is not for the weak-hearted, undetermined or “lazy-minded.” Both of my businesses started off slow but as I marketed my products more and customers began to recommend my products, every month is greater success for me. I have had so many sleepless nights that I can’t even count but my mind is on the bigger picture so I am okay with putting in the work. My mentor explained to be how important it is to have a strong team to be able to help you along the way and as my business grows, I learn how important that really is. Selfishness won’t get you far so being able to bring strong people along with the same vision is the key to a successful business. With that being said, I hope to start building my team here pretty soon within the next year.
Please tell us about Allure Lumiere.
Allure Lumiere is a home fragrance business. My specialty is scented soy candles, wax melts and bath and body products. Chic Craftz is a handcrafted goods business that is mainly known for DIY Candle Kits. I am most proud of the versatility of my products and the ability to provide a service that anyone can enjoy. My products are environmental, natural and easy to use. All of my candle vessels are also recyclable.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is riding around in my Barbie car! Haha. I was the only child for a while, so I would make my dad and uncles get in the car with me and ride the car up and down the street. We still joke about it till this day.
