Today we’d like to introduce you to Darin Pitre.
Darin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and honestly, my love for music started before I even knew what to call it. My biggest inspiration was my uncle, Hammond B. DeJean Jr. (1955–2022)—my first teacher, my musical compass, and the coolest DJ I had ever seen. He was spinning records back in the 1970s, and I was absolutely in awe of his collection. While other kids were outside playing, I was inside flipping through vinyl like it was treasure. To me, those records were bigger than any toy, and his turntables felt like a doorway into a whole different world.
From elementary school all the way through college, he was the closest connection I had to music. He taught me about technique, groove, pockets, and the importance of carving out my own sound. He always reminded me, “Don’t Believe the Hype.” That phrase stuck with me—it kept me grounded, focused, and true to the craft.
By the time I stepped onto the Lake Charles DJ scene in 1999, I had already spent years studying, listening, and absorbing everything he showed me. My taste was eclectic, my record bag was wild, and I loved blending genres in ways that felt fresh. Those early years shaped the creativity and boldness I’m known for today.
Now holding it down in the DFW area, I’m still driven by that same passion—bringing soul, energy, and intention to every set. Whether I’m spinning house, hip-hop, techno, R&B, or anything in between, I let the music tell its story. I take pride in reading a crowd, building a vibe, and guiding people through a journey they can feel in their chest.
Everything I am as a DJ—every transition, every groove, every moment I create—comes from that foundation my uncle laid for me. His legacy lives in my work, in my sound, and in the joy I bring to every room I step into.
“Music is universal, it takes us everywhere… No Loitering.”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every road has obstacles, but are you tough enough to take the path or make a path. In 2020 my hometown was hit by a Category 4 hurricane. Not only did I lose equipment but I also lost my childhood home. I’ve struggled with investing early on in my career. Equipment can get expensive yet, it’s an investment.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Creating sparks a profound sense of joy within me. The exhilaration of bringing something entirely new into existence, a concept that was nonexistent before my own conception, is incredibly fulfilling. This creative process ignites a passion within me, pushing me to explore uncharted territories and continuously seek innovative solutions. It’s in these moments of invention that I truly feel alive and connected to the boundless potential of human ingenuity.
