Meet Darren Mcgrady of Eating Royally Darren Mcgrady

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darren Mcgrady.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Darren. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I went to culinary school in the UK and from there to The Savoy Hotel, London where I spent just over two years. From the Savoy, I moved to Buckingham Palace where I spent the next eleven years traveling around the world with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II catering every aspect of her life. After the separation of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, the Princess asked me to move to Kensington Palace to be personal chef to her and Princes William and Harry where I spent the next four years up until the day of her tragic accident.

I then moved to Dallas Texas to work as a private chef for a family for seventeen years and just two years ago started my own catering company Eating Royally, Fine Catering (named after my first cookbook) My second cookbook The Royal Chef at Home was released in November 2017.

We now cater events all over Texas where more often than not the menu consists of the Royal family favorites dishes and /or dishes I prepared for the five US Presidents I cooked followed by a presentation after the meal sharing anecdotes and stories.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has taken time to let the people of Dallas know that I have the catering company, but word of mouth is powerful.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with EATING ROYALLY, FINE CATERING – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Eating Royally not only offers catered meals and events but also an experience. Clients can enjoy a meal prepared to the standard of food served to the royal table at Buckingham Palace, indeed the same recipes too and afterwards enjoy a presentation on behind the scenes and life at Buckingham Palace

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that people are so interested in food and the diversity. When I am creating menus for an event it tests me. I have to think of new dishes, regional, ethnic, trending. The days of steak and potatoes in Dallas are long gone.

I wish we were closer to the ocean.
