Today we’d like to introduce you to Dave Jones and Irum Jones.
Dave & Irum are the duo that manage and operate Electrician On Call; a family-owned and operated Electrical and HVAC company that services residential and light commercial customers throughout the DFW area for over 15 years.
He is the Master Electrician, Founder, & President of Electrician On Call. His wife, Irum serves as the Co-Owner and COO.
The duo met in college and fast-tracked their way into fulltime careers all while still being enrolled as fulltime students! With their busy schedules, they attempted to balance work, school, their personal lives, and a new baby on the way! In the middle of the perfect storm of having so many life events happening at once, Dave decided to go into business for himself and he created Electrician On Call with a promise to provide his customers with fast, reliable, dependable and worry-free service. With his wife by his side, they both set out on an adventure to create one of DFW’s most reputable and trusted Electrical & HVAC contracting companies.
Dave is originally from Natchez, Mississippi and was introduced to the trade in 1991 while enrolled in the Navy. During his deployment, he was part of the Navy Seabee division where he worked alongside his peers to construct and repair military bases.
After his honorable discharge in 1997, Dave was accepted into the electrical engineering program at Purdue University – Calumet. At Purdue, he earned 2 positions on the college basketball team as the Point Guard and Shooting Guard. In 2000, he was offered a unique opportunity to participate in a popular engineering program and relocated to Dallas, Texas. While attended college, and working full time as a Journeyman Electrician, Dave decided that he was going to open his own Electrical contracting business as a fair, honest, and trustworthy electrician – which he did!
Fast-forward to 2017, Electrician On Call has a team of State Licensed Technicians and trained helpers that were all personally trained by Dave from technical training to treating customers with the respect and integrity.
Dave still operates and personally inspects every aspect of the company to ensure that customers receive a worry-free experience every time. He sets time aside to review each estimate, talks to customers with respect, integrity and answers questions from homeowners requesting an honest opinion on electrical work.
Irum is a native New Yorker that loves the Texas heat! She takes pride in everything she does ranging from volunteering in the community to closing out largescale electrical projects. She is a Project Manager by trade, always finding efficient and lean methods to carryout tasks all while focusing on the best experience for customers. She is a veteran in establishing fresh processes, and believes the lifeline of a company is to have good processes. With Irum’s impactful contribution, she continues to win support from her customers, peers and executives alike.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Dave started out as “one-man-in-a-van” for years and relied on referrals because we didn’t understand the best ways to market our services. As we continued to grow and add team members we also had to change our processes to adapt to our growing business.
