Today we’d like to introduce you to David Bryant.
Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
1418 Coffeehouse opened in July 2013. It is the original craft coffee shop in Plano and my wife and I purchased 1418 in 2019. We are anything but a typical coffee shop. We pride ourselves in creating the perfect drink and experience for every customer who walks through our doors while providing the perfect spot to meet family or friends, work, study, dream, create or relax and escape the busyness of our culture. The shop is frequently described as cozy and comfortable with a hipster vibe. We have an amazing team of baristas who are the best in the industry. Coffee is very trendy and we work to separate ourselves from the rest by not trying to keep up with the latest and greatest but making sure we are being the very best we can be by only serving great product. We want people to leave our shop feeling better about their day with a smile on their face. Our mission statement of Coffee, Community and Compassion is prominently displayed on our front window so we can continually stay focused on what matters most. Coffee means we will always strive to be better in our craft and never take for granted the customers who honor us by choosing 1418. Our passion is to serve them with excellence each and every time they are in. Community means we want to be a resource to downtown Plano, the city, the schools, businesses and many wonderful organizations that are in our city. Compassion is simple and powerful; each day, we ask ourselves, who can we help today? 1418 is a special place and we are blessed to have the honor to be part of all the shop means to so many while we also look for new avenues to expand and grow our services.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing of value is ever on a smooth road. The greatest successes come through hard work, sacrifice and persistence. I wouldn’t necessary describe anything as a struggle, instead of as an opportunity to make something happen. I believe there is always a way to make something happen if you are solutions minded and stay out of the weeds while staying focused on the goals ahead. If there has been a challenge for us, it was when we took over and had to transition team members who didn’t have the same mindset or share our vision. We always work to treat people with respect and give them a chance with the goal of making sure you just don’t have people in places, but you have the right people in the right places. Now, we are through that process and very fortunate to have brought on talented quality people who share the vision of 1418. Our product is coffee and people, always looking to equip people to be able to achieve their life dreams. We know, in our business, people won’t stay forever but we are thrilled to provide a place they will look back on as being instrumental in their story.
Please tell us about 1418 Coffeehouse.
We are a craft coffee shop. It’s important to know there is a difference between what we do and other well-known coffee places. A gifted artist creates every drink we provide with love and care. This is quite different from the model of being made by a machine. We want to be known as a place with great coffee, great people and a great environment. I am proud of the people of 1418, the employees and the customers.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
