David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After attending dozens of friends’ Weddings, we were amazed at how many brides and bridesmaids had trouble finding quality hair stylists and makeup artists to help them look and feel great for their big day! Friends and family usually had a go to stylist or an acquaintance that could do hair or makeup; the problem arose when they needed to perform hair and makeup for 5-10 people. Rarely could the artists find another qualified stylist available on the Wedding date to help them complete a party. We could see the problem extended to high school girls trying to get ready as a group for Homecoming and Prom within a timeframe. We knew there had to be a better way! Fast forward 6 months, and Chic Occasion was created to solve just that dilemma. We are performing hair and/or makeup styling for hundreds of people/month. We provide services for groups of 3+. We are all about group styling. We are excited about the growth we have experienced throughout 2017. In January of 2018 we will launch in Houston, Texas to provide more clients with quality, one-stop beauty service!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle we have experienced has been finding quality stylists. We have interviewed more than 320 stylists with a range of experience and beauty skills. We have chosen from this large group, the top 54 artists that align with our vision: providing top quality customer service and hair/makeup to our clients. We believe in making sure clients receive any hair style they want from a side sweep or soft, beach curls to full up-do’s or vintage looks as well as soft, natural looks or full out glam makeup. We focus on initial consultations with our clients to address their desired looks, establish a rapport and make sure it is a stress-free pampering environment.
Chic Occasion – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are an On-Site Hair/Makeup company providing services for groups of 3+. We are performing hair and/or makeup styling for hundreds of people/month. We are all about group styling.
We believe in four key strategies that differentiate us and allow our customers to get the best service at reasonable pricing.
1) We provide our client with qualified, experienced hair stylists and makeup artists.
2) We send out as many artists as needed to complete any party size in 2.5 hours or less. Often we style parties of 12-20 and we send out 6-10 artists. Our ability to send out so many stylists makes getting ready a breeze and allows clients to get personalized attention.
3) We are completely On-Site; we come to your home or venue of choice.
4) We charge all flat pricing. We don’t believe in charging add-ons for up-do’s, airbrush makeup, false lashes, parking or travel fees. All our services are one rate.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career with Chic Occasion is the emails and texts I receive from happy clients showing off our beautiful hair and/or makeup looks that our artists have created for them!
