Today we’d like to introduce you to David Goldstein.
Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love of dogs began when I was 19 years old and had a dog trainer come to our home to train two chow shepherd mixes. I was enthralled by the process. I began reading and intensely working at training my own dogs Winnie and Biko who turned out to be the most amazing dogs. I continued practicing with neighbor dogs and began circulating flyers at the college and neighborhoods I was a part of and trained dogs as a side business for years. Upon moving to the Boise area, I formally opened Save The Mailmen In Home Dog Training And Pet Sitting as a niche business to families who understood the optimal impact of training in the context of their own homes. My mission is to help every dog owner in the world understand what dogs really are and need in an effort to create a meaningful and trusting bond between person and dog while commanding respect. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and leading and consider myself an innate teacher. In addition, I discovered how much I love to own and operate my own business. I merged all my skill sets, knowledge, and passions together to create a meaningful career for me. Lastly, the people I meet who collaborate with me and my staff while getting terrific results helps me to feel like we make a difference in saving the lives of our furry friends.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The dynamic of building a business is always experienced as an ebb and flow. We’ve had challenges and we’ve made mistakes but mostly have been able to weather the storms as we have built an entrenched business model in the Boise, Idaho area. The business got its “legs” 4 years ago and we’ve been able to maintain a slow growth by intention. We chose Dallas in our expansion plan due to its demographics and friendly nature. We appreciate the work ethic and dog-loving denizens of the area.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in an in-home training lens. We firmly believe that this is the most optimal, effective, and impactful model to train dogs for 5 major reasons.
1 Dogs respond differently with different handlers. We want to collaborate with you the dog owner, so you’ll never need another dog trainer again she will know how to manage over 90% of any issues in your home and on leash.
2 Dogs also respond differently in their homes then they will outside at a brick-and-mortar training facility.
3 You cannot learn at a brick-and-mortar facility what you need to learn in the context of your home. Things like guest protocol, door crashing, reactivity at the fences, windows, doors, and leashes. In addition, dogs are major space violators, and you will learn to place your dog and respect your personal space which is very helpful with young children especially.
4 Unlike most brick-and-mortar trainers, he will not lose the training like most people do within 6 months to a year after spending thousands of dollars at a big box trainer.
5 It will typically be a fraction of the cost from most big box trainer prices.
Lastly, many people have a false belief that they won’t start dog training till about 6 months old. This is completely misleading and causes lots of problems. Dog training should begin at the time you bring the puppy home where we focus on things like adjusted bite inhibition, potty and crate acclamation, leash acclimation, and preventative resource guarding early, especially with young children in the home. Many times, these important things are done incorrectly, and we have to reverse engineer the many strategies that many people utilize. It is this one-on-one, robust training model that sets us apart from most dog training programs. The fact that we actually have a model and work through it makes chronological sense and helps to build a global engagement with your dog.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I also spent many years in the criminal genetic and clinical counseling and addiction demographics. I’m also authoring a parenting book.
