Today we’d like to introduce you to David Huck.
David, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to Plano, Texas when I was fourteen. It used to be the farthest north suburb of Dallas at the time. Thirty years later I am still a few miles North from where I started my life as a Texan. Prosper a once “one light town” that has now flourished and is bustling with growth. I’ve been working in Prosper for the last 12 years as an Insurance Agent with my own agency Prosper Insurance Center.
I am not shy. I love to meet people and get to know them, but I have never liked selling things to people. In fact, I did not do that great at the beginning because of that. It wasn’t until I stopped trying to sell and began talking to people about what they cared about that things started to change.
Insurance may not be the sexiest subject, but it is embedded in almost every aspect of our lives. Think about it. There are people that we care about, things that we value; and we are always trying to find ways to protect them. That’s when it clicked for me; my job is about helping people find what they need and want to protect the people they love.
Being a small business owner has allowed me to focus on the things that matter to me. I have worked in big companies, I have managed big teams, and I learned a lot from it. That being said, nothing brings me more satisfaction than being part of the same community that I serve, having the flexibility to be a part of my children’s school activities, lunch meetings at the Rotary and Networking groups. All these things are the puzzle pieces that make my picture complete.
Has it been a smooth road?
I away found it difficult working for large companies and middle management. I felt that my personal goals didn’t align with the company goals. Once I founded my company, I found that I was happier than I ever was before.
Even though there are challenges to being a business owner; being responsible not just for my future but my employees as well, the freedom was well worth the risk. The more responsibilities I had, the more motivated I was to succeed.
Please tell us about Prosper Insurance Center.
Prosper Insurance Center is a full-service independent insurance agency. We work with businesses and individuals for all their insurance need. From business liability, property, and fleets to personal home and auto, life, health and more. I created this agency to serve most if not all the varying needs for insurance so they did not have to go to multiple agents to meet their needs. With over 30 years of insurance experience in the office, we can tackle the most difficult issues to take care of our clients.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Prosper [Far North Dallas] is one of the fastest-growing areas in Texas let alone the entire USA. In my opinion that is the best place to do business. Being part of this evolving community is exciting and rewarding. This small town suburb has a small-town feel but with all the modern conveniences of the Dallas metropolis. I have taken advantage of the opportunities to weave myself in the local community through the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary and the local charities. This is where you find the people that love the town. Work can’t just be a 9 to 5 chair you spend more than half you live, become part of the community and it will become part of who you are.
