Meet David Mason of DFitJunkie

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Mason.

David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my Blog: DFitJunkie because I grew up passionate about fitness.. not only as a means of staying in shape but as a life style. I’m also a male blogger who isn’t involved in the fitness industry as a primary career. This puts me in a unique category that I think is relatable to most men and women who enjoy being fit while balancing a different kind of career. I use my blog to talk about my passion for all things fitness. Workouts, Foods, Clothes, you name it, I want to document my perspectives and experiences in finding my better self each and every day. All the meanwhile finding that perfect balance between life and achieving my fitness goals.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has NOT been a smooth road. Blogging does not come easily to me. It has been difficult to remain consistent, to find time after a long day at work to create quality content on a regular basis. There were times where I questioned my relevancy, doubting myself forever pursuing this dream in the first place. In the beginning, I felt like my impact wasn’t growing to my expectations, especially compared to others. Seeing the success my peers were creating all over social media was bittersweet at first. It’s hard not to compare my influence to theirs.

It wasn’t until I finished my first year of blogging, that I stopped worrying about how many readers I was getting, or how fast my followership was growing. I told myself to write what I want without apology, and pursue the dreams I have without regret.

DFitJunkie – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
DFitJunkie is about fitness culture. I write and talk about all things related to fitness, wellness, nutrition, style, and everything in between. It’s about the constant pursuit of a better self, knowing there’s no such thing as a perfect self.

What sets me apart is that I try to balance this pursuit with a traditional career and family dynamic. More importantly, I’m willing to try and talk about various aspects of this pursuit in the form of a blog or podcast. I’m also willing to push my body through physical and mental challenges. I’ve run several marathons and obstacle course races, and I enjoy motivating others to meet these challenges with me.

I am the most proud of using my blog and influence to help my friends and others achieve their fitness goals.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
With the help of my friends, and the owners of Evolve Gym (Sharif and Madison) I hosted my very first fitness event last year: Gainsgiving. We raised over $500 for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico and executed a unique fitness competition in the process.
